EEU-Vietnam Free Trade Deal to Boost Investments – Russian Prime Minister

The introduction of the free trade zone between the Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) and Vietnam is expected to help develop investment cooperation between Moscow and the Asia-Pacific region, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Vietnam became the first country to sign a free trade agreement with the EEU in May 2015.

"We expect that the removal of barriers will expand investment cooperation between Russia and the Asia-Pacific region and, above all, Vietnam," Medvedev said.

The EEU, comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, is an international organization that encourages regional economic integration through the free movements of goods, services, and people within the union.

More than 40 countries and international organizations, including China, Indonesia, Israel and Iran have expressed interest in creating a free trade area with the bloc.

Tourism sector aims to lure 1 mln Russian tourists by 2020

Moscow (VNA) – Vietnam’s tourism sector aims to welcome one million Russian visitors by 2020, said Deputy Director General of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration Nguyen Quoc Hung.

The sector also targets to lure at least 400,000 Russian holidaymakers this year, Hung said at a tourism promotion programme in Moscow on February 24.

The event was jointly organized by the Vietnam National Tourism Administration (VNAT), the Vietnam Tourism Association (VTA), the Department of Tourism in Hanoi, and the Russian National Tourist Office and the Russian Tourism Association.

President of the Russian Tourism Association Sergey Agafonov highlighted Vietnam’s tourism potential and the possibility of increasing Russian visitors to Vietnam.

During the event, Russian tourism agencies looked at incentives for Russian tourists in Vietnam.

Vietnamese tourism service providers introduced a tourism website in Russian, as well as promotions and tourism packages.

Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh said the number of tourists is yet to meet the two nations’ potential.

The Association has worked with numerous relevant bodies and localities to launch new tourism products, discount programmes and improved service quality, particularly in the Central Highlands, the south central region, the northwest and Hanoi.-VNA

Control is a relative term. Trade lines will be challenged by no state actor, after all. And the ability to control comes after a certain level of strength is achieved. The only way for this is economic development. It is not really possible to have control before achieving a certain level of capacity.

Therefore, within the existing geopolitical structures, we can pursue greater economic integration and cooperation regardless of the US control over the key chokepoints. Otherwise, we will keep waiting for another 100 years. They will be not get lost by their own volition.
