The Ecuadorian Army received 709 logistics support vehicles during a 7 April ceremony at Ft Huancavilca in Guayaquil.

President Rafael Correa delivered the vehicles and announced they would be used to transport troops and equipment, as well as to respond to civilian needs such as rescue, evacuation, and protection from natural disasters.

The Ecuadorian government announced in July 2014 that it considered these trucks a strategic requirement, as 70% of its land transport fleet is reported to be obsolete and only 51% operational.

The 709 HOWO-series vehicles were procured from the China National Heavy Duty Truck Import and Export Corporation (CNHTC) through a package announced by the Ecuadorian government at USD81 million.
