ISLAMABAD-

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)on Wednesday provided the nomination papers of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as requested.

Two PTI leaders – Muraad Saeed and Ali Muhammad Khan – had filed a request before the commission on July 9, 2014 seeking Nawaz’s disqualification.

They had sought copies of the nomination form, claiming that the premier had lied about his past in the form. After reviewing the request, the ECP gave the copies of the nomination form to PTI.

According to the nomination papers filed by the PM, he has shown his education qualification as graduate and profession agriculture and politics.

The papers further show that PM Sharif paid Rs 2.12 million tax in 2010, in 2011 2.5 million, in 2012 he paid 2.49 million tax.

In 2010 the PM showed his asset as 50.20 million in 2010, in 2011 50.7 million and in 2012 80.37 million while his total assets are worth Rs 360.16 million.

The nomination papers also show that the premier owns no car, saving accounts or any jewelry.

It merits mentioning that every candidate fills in the prescribed application form, called nomination papers, for contesting elections. Candidature of every contestant is evaluated by returning officers under Articles 62 and 63 to decide whether or not they are eligible to contest. If someone is not satisfied with the ROs’ decision, they can approach higher forums.

PTI had said in its petition with the ECP that PM Nawaz was neither ‘sadiq’ nor ‘ameen’, hence not eligible to be an MNA. Sources said that PTI might now file a reference against the prime minister for his disqualification.

Before the PTI announced legal battle against the PM, Arsalan Iftikhar, son of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, had also sought copies of Imran’s nomination forms for what he described as PTI chief’s alleged moral turpitude.
