Economic Development in Azerbaijan

AZALJET already operates from Turkey to Baku, the price of the ticket is around 85 bucks, pretty good deal IMO

Sorry I'm used to RyanAir prices, still to expensive for my cheap-***.

SOCAR supplies Malta's first LNG

SOCAR trading, a marketing arm of Azerbaijan’s State Energy major (SOCAR) delivered Malta’s first ever cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on January 10. The volume of the maiden supply, which was delivered aboard the Galea tanker, is over 14,000 cubic meters. The cargo size delivered is small, compared to Galea's 136,967 cubic meters capacity, and is expected to be used for commissioning of the new facilities.

The arrival of the first LNG cargo is part of the process of commissioning the Armada LNG Mediterrana and the new power station, built by ElectroGas (a three-way consortium of Germany's Siemens, SOCAR Trading and privately-owned Maltese joint venture GEM Holdings).

The floating storage unit (FSU), Armada LNG Mediterrana, arrived in Malta three months ago on October 10, 2016. The FSU will deliver LNG to the onshore regasification plant feeding natural gas to the 200 MW power station during the entire project life of 18 years. The project aims to decrease electricity prices, reduce environmental damage from energy production, and increase security of supply by diversifying the energy mix. The project will partly replace the existing electricity generation infrastructure in Malta.

Speaking at a press conference marking the arrival of the first LNG cargo, Maltese Minister Konrad Mizzi said the power station is expected to be operational in the next few weeks. He noted that the shift from oil to LNG will drastically reduce harmful pollution emissions and particles, and allow electricity bills to remain cheap.

Building on its expertise from a nearly completed project in Malta, SOCAR hopes to expand its LNG portfolio. In 2015, SOCAR Trading was granted Platt's Award of Excellence in the Strategic Deal of the Year category for its breakthrough Malta LNG project. Headquartered in Geneva, SOCAR Trading was incorporated in December 2007.

Turkmen carbamide to be transported via Azerbaijan

Turkmenistan plans to transport some 300,000 tons of carbamide (urea), which is in high demand in the global market, through Azerbaijan in 2017.

The decision came after the successful implementation of test transportation via the country in late 2016.

Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) reported that the first test transit of cargo (urea) from Turkmenistan through Azerbaijan to the Black Sea was implemented in December 2016. Within the transportation process, the cargo was delivered by vessels to Baku terminal and further to Georgia via railway.

Due to adverse weather conditions and traffic congestion, the freight was delivered not to the new port located in Alat settlement, but to the old Baku port

ADY actively participates in the implementation of strategically important international transport corridor projects, while the main objective is to attract transit cargo from Middle and East Asia to Europe and backward. Cooperation of the company with the Baku International Sea Trade Port is one of the constituent elements in the attraction of freight traffic to the country.

Azerbaijan's advantageous geographical position at the crossroads between East and West and developed transport infrastructure attracts various countries, which wish to transport their cargoes through the territory of the country. Growing interest in the transport infrastructures passing through Azerbaijan's territory is expected to make Azerbaijan a major transport hub in the region.

Azerbaijan plans to increase the volume of cargo transit through its territory bringing huge profits to the economy. In September 2016 Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan signed the Ashgabat Declaration to create a transport corridor from Beijing to London.

Azerbaijan starts producing Zarba armed UAV

Azerbaijan’s Azad Systems has begun manufacturing Aeronautics Defense Systems’ Orbiter 1K armed loitering unmanned air vehicle under licence as the locally named “Zarba”.

Media outlets in the country have identified the model as a locally made version of the Israeli design, and have shown the nation’s president visiting the production line of Azad Systems, which was established in 2011 with assistance from Aeronautics.

Aeronautics’ first loitering weapon system, the UAV is launched from a catapult and can fly for 2-3h carrying its warhead and an electro-optical/infrared sensor before engaging a target.

The company claims that its very low acoustic signature means the Orbiter 1K is not detectable until 2s before starting its attack dive. However, if the target has moved or cannot be attacked, an operator can bring the aircraft back to make a safe landing.

Azerbaijan has a population problem. The birth rate is falling and the population will get older in the next 50 years. The average age in 2050 will be 41 years.

If the birth rate is 1.5, the population will be 15 million in 2040. The average age is 33 - 35.

You will have an old population.

So does/will the rest of the world. Nothing to worry about. This is going to be a global trend during the 21st century.

those numbers don't mean much if you don't know how developed a country will be in 30 years, if Azerbaijan is a country with high income, then those figures are fine, if its low to lower middle income, then it is a problem.

Azerbaijan also has more Azerbaijanis living abroad than inside the country, with favorable policies and good level of development, Azerbaijan can tap into that potential.

I would say it's still a problem for a nation if the birthrate is low, the population can't be maintained. If every woman has 2 children then that's fine, but it would be better to have more of course because you have to factor in those who don't get married and such.

Its more important to worry about economic conditions of a country, a wealthy country can create incentives to solve its population problems, a rapidly growing population is also not a good thing, by 2050 the world will be fully automated, from self-driving cars, to mega factories with 0 workers, most of the governments around the world will be struggling to pay its population a set income.
