ECC approves firing all Pakistan Steel Mill employees

.
Blast furnaces are out dated and inefficient. Only the rolling mill processing facility are of any real use. Those should be salvaged if possible....sold to a private steel mill operator in Pakistan. This action is a long time coming.

so is the diesel locomotives of Pakistan Railways.

9k workers jobless in a covid era economy. Sad news but I guess hard decisions was the only choice.
Whoever is taking over , most probably Chinese. Will rehire or start operation on there terms and condition. Majority of employees were getting paid even mill production on lowest level. Hundreds of ghost employees, union monopoly etc etc ...I am afraid top management and engineers will be from foreign land, hope I am wrong. All jobs should go to locals.

What is going on in this country. Why firing all the employees. One should fire the unnecessary staff and cut cost and by getting rid of the excess staff, made it viable to do business. But seems that they want to shut down the steel mills completely and switch over to imports. Bad planning
No 1. The decision is taken by ecc and has to be aprroved by the cabinet which lacks the guts to take important decisions as these.
All of these so called employs who haven't worked a day have already established businesses or other means of jobs.
Giving them a sum and disposing them is a good option.
Neither you want the ill tone privatised.
Neither you wnat it to be run anyother countery.
So it's better. It would not make any more loss.

i can still see 79 corollas and datsuns on street. doesnt mean they are new, or that their efficiency is on par with the new one. also, only a small part of it was operational, not even 10%.
I have seen reconditioned looms, textile machines, dyeing plants and even electric generators original manufactured in late 90s and they working efficiently.

Ok, let assume that you are right even than have got to find out a way aimed at salvaging this national asset.

Once, In an interview Lakshmi Mittal described Pakistan Steel as a Gold Mine.

and that is why our textile industry is going down the craphole. that isnt efficiency, that is stupidity. they cannot minimize human and power costs (automation and latest design = lower consumption per unit of output), and they cannot produce high quality fabric at low costs.

the machinery is obsolete, no one makes its parts anymore. its rusted all over. can only be sold off as scrap.
Lakshmi Mittal described Pakistan Steel as a Gold Mine.
that era is gone.

the military isnt qualified to run a factory either. none of them(civil and military) know anything about industrial engg, and next to nothing about marketing.

not really, power china plant right next to steel mills is being run by pakistani engrs. entire batches were hired, trained in china for 6 months, and then employed at the power plant. some upper management may be chinese, but that will change as more Pakistani engrs rise through the ranks
You are talking about after construction, I aam talking about the construction

How can i do thumbs down to you ? :P

@Topic,

Why the govt is giving package to these good for nothing corrupt employees?
They are Not Corrupt. They are Haram Khors by all means and definations.. Not a bunch of few thousands but horde of families had been fed with Haram for years if not decades

I think, in recent times there were meetings of russians intrested to revive it.
Maybe they have laid out the plan and going to implement it real soon. I wish it is real soon

I see so many kabaria lohar tooi wal on this thread. funny, the kabaria's couldn't run state mill properly YET their own steel mills run like clock work.

bhutto was great leader in a sense that nuclear program and steel mills were established under his govt but now it seems that this govt will destroy all national assets due to poor economic policy and bad management following the path of previous corrupt govts

For the record, ZA Bhutto was undoubtedly the person who decided that Pakistan would build the nuclear bomb, but planning for the Steel Mill goes back to the first 5 years plan of Ayub Khan (1955-1960). In 1969 (Yahya Khan) Pakistan signed a deal with the Soviet Union for a feasibility study for a steel mill. Bhutto only laid the foundation stone.

Good decision but Why giving 2.3 millions per person? They were already getting paid for many years salary goes in without work.

Most of them are political workers.

So we 22 crore people will be paying their 2.3 millions for 9000 employees each in form of more taxes?

It might seem as a linear transaction, but in my opinion its a price we are paying to end the blackmailing political unions working on behest of their backers, and to get rid of the politically appointed. We should at the least go for gov private partnership, with management and majority ownership to the latter. And let them hire the workforce. This will end the political interference culture.
