Eavesdropping on Iran: ‘US pressing for listening posts in Balochistan’

How? That's the question. Pakistan's only bargaining chip was that NATO supply route. Now that is gone too. While NATO is incurring high costs, it hasn't collapsed. Which means it has enough financial cushion that it has not told any of its payers upon which it can establish a strong alternate route through CAR countries and Russia. Once the Northern Link firms up, even if it is more expensive, it would be a big big loss to Pakistan's strategic influence and bargaining cards.

NATO supply routes were never closed, the statements by Government were blatant and repeated lies. Land routes were blocked but Air corridor was allowed throughout the course of these statements and this air corridor, while being a lot more expensive then the ground route, is still much cheaper and faster then getting in the stuff through any alternate route. Quite a lot of stuff was also let through in guise of Afghan trade transit!

This is also proof that our Government and Military deliberately misguide us, keep us in the dark to please the US, in other words they continue to please their master while we burn and suffer.

In that past, the region was not close to an intra-regional war like today it is. Neither the NATO would back down nor the Mullas would. Which means Pakistan is naturally going to be sucked into combat whether they like it or not... unless of course, they manage to find some other bargaining chips.

Any ideas for them?

NATO/US would not back down? Last I checked the NATO that invaded Afghanistan and Iraq had already left both countries, there's only 3-4 US allied countries that are still there to lick their masters *****! But the US is defeated and backing down, so are the allies!

The Talibaan knew that it was only a matter of time, they held the mighty US at stalemate and, well, truth is that the US blinked. Now what we wait for is to see whether the US gets a, somewhat, graceful exit or they get thrown out disgracefully.

NATO is incurring costs that it can incur. They're not the tolerant types in this field, if you get my gist. Surely there's something they know that Pakistan and others don't know, which means they would already be active in speeding up Northern Link connection. If that becomes successful pertaining to Russia's demands, it would mean a lot of trouble for Pakistan's negotiating committee in Foreign Affairs department.

Already answered in the beginning of my response to this post :).

usa is the biggest terrorists in the world, i hope some new superpower emerges soon.

careful what you wish for.

instead of wishing for more super powers, wish that American public can influence its government and policy makers to stop invading other countries.

And if they cant solve world conflicts then dont fuel them by encouraging and supporting their favourite sides or regeimes.

re Balochistan, the centre is ignoring the actual Baloch population and is busy trying to appease the Baloch leadership which has not worked in the past and wont work now. they have been bribed by the British because the Raj was not interested in long term solution whereas we are to live with this issue if we dont find the long term solution.

make the Baloch blackmailing chieftains irrelevant and empower the population and then no superpower will have the chance to setup anything against us and the Baloch leaders like Atta Ullah Mangel and talal Bughti will be confined to their drawing rooms with no opetion but to talk to the walls because by then even the Western media will loose interest in these old farts.

Tshering is a known anti-Pakistan troll, he tries to blend in by using 'delicate' words at times, but if you carefully read through his posts, it's nothing but bla-bla and bla, Pakistan this, Pakistan that, Pakistan not good enough or Pakistan fail this and that.

Okay, what part of my post was trolling? Can you highlight this? Let me open your eyes:

- Your home country is not in a good shape militarily.
- While you have strong defenses, there is an alternate means of virtual invasion being made.
- Balochistan is a lingering problem that NATO can manipulate if you give them space.
- Having bases in your territory with military equipment pointed towards Iran is in US interest.
- With your military always so tight around its eastern border with us, the situation is not really helping your western border.
- Your leaders have to manage your foreign policies tactfully to get best benefit as you're running out of bargaining chips.

What part of this is trolling?

You need to understand something; situation in this part of the world isn't the same as where you reside. Call it delicate words or not, but these points are something your fellow Pakistanis have agreed and have constructively debated here till you and Leviza gatecrashed with your personal attacks.

But isn't that kinda what Musharraf did with Bugti? And I am not blaming Musharraf for Bugti's death, I am pointing to the fact that Bugti was sidelined and forced to flee and hide in caves during Musharraf's era but Baloch hate Musharraf for that and this is what confuses me the most.

Your kind of absurd thinking is what has completely *fvcked* up our nation, almost to the point where it is beyond repair.

Why do you and your ilk always have the mentality that we should prostitute ourselves to the US as the only way of generating revenue for our nation? I never hear about how we should further push our vast agricultural products into new markets, expand our services sector and build on technology to ensure more of our citizens are connected to the rest of the world. The only thing that you like to champion is quick-fixes that will result in us being used, abused and ultimately refused. Then when the money flow stops, well have to look for another sugar-daddy eh?

Ever thought about staying neutral for once? Like much of the Nordic nations in WW2, who are now enjoying one of the biggest booms and have the some of the best living indexes in the world?

Trying to make a quick buck in the war on terror was the thinking of Musharaff. Having bombs going off in Bazaars resulting in the biggest civillian loss of casualities is this war was resulting "blowback" from such thinking.

Please engage your brain next time you think of promoting an already flawed policy.

Will support US, Nato or Indian intervention: Brahamdagh Bugti

Supporting the US congressional bill on Balochistan, Baloch Republican Party’s self-exiled chief Barahmdagh Bugti has welcomed all foreign intervention in the province whether it is the US, Nato or India.

QUETTA: Supporting the US congressional bill on Balochistan, Baloch Republican Party’s self-exiled chief Brahamdagh Bugti has welcomed all foreign intervention in the province whether it is by the US, Nato or India.

“America must intervene in Balochistan and stop the ethnic cleansing of Baloch people,” said Brahamdagh, 30, as reporters listened with rapt attention to his telephonic address on Wednesday at the Quetta Press Club. “We know that foreign countries have their personal interest but we must think of our greater interest.”

A resolution was introduced on February 17 by Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and co-sponsored by two other congressmen in the US House of Representatives, calling upon Pakistan to recognise the Baloch people’s right to self determination. The bill has outraged Pakistan and leaders and lawmakers have called it against the country’s sovereignty and an unwelcome intervention by the US.

“Baloch women, political leaders, activists, students, writers, poets, professors and intellectuals are being subjected to enforced disappearances and undergoing torture for years. Their mutilated bodies turn up daily. Under such circumstances, we will welcome the support of foreign countries,” he said. “We have been accused of getting support from India but the Baloch movement does not have any foreign support. However, we will welcome any support for independence.”

Balochistan, Pakistan’s least developed but largest province by area, has undergone a separatist insurgency since the country’s inception. The insurgency escalated into rampant violence after the 2006 murder of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, the grandfather of Brahamdagh Bugti.

“The American resolution and committee formed for Balochistan is not against the sovereignty of Pakistan. Every country has the right to interfere or intervene [in another’s affairs] if there are state-sponsored human rights violations,” he said.

‘They are protecting Punjab’s sovereignty’

Sceptical of mainstream politicians’ and media attention to Balochistan’s affairs, Brahamdagh said the change of heart was rooted in apprehensions over Punjab’s sovereignty. “Pakistani politicians like Nawaz Sharif are now visiting Balochistan and inquiring about the plight of Baloch people. There are discussions and talks on TV channels and print media in recent days about Balochistan. Because they are now worried about the sovereignty of Punjab and [want] to protect Punjab’s interest.”

If they were sincere, he said, they should have raised the issue of enforced disappearances, mutilated bodies of Baloch youth and leaders earlier.

Reiterating his stance that there is violation of human rights in Balochistan by security forces and agencies, Brahamdagh said that Army Chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had said that there was no military operation in the province and must stop denying the truth now.

Brahamdagh pointed out that if the lawmakers believe that the situation in Dera Bugti, Kohlu and adjoining areas is normal, they should allow free access to the region for journalists, international humanitarian organisations and citizens.

‘No negotiations’

When asked about an all-parties conference that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had announced over the crisis in Balochistan, Brahamdagh said that Baloch nationalist leaders will not join negotiations. “One the one hand, they are calling an APC while on the other, they are brutally killing Baloch people and throwing their bullet-riddled, mutilated bodies,” he said.

Brahamdagh called on Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi and Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani to also join the Baloch movement, leaving behind their “temporary” and “personal” interest as they will not achieve anything but humiliation from supporting the Pakistani government. “If they do not want to join the movement, they should resign from office and sit quietly because the Baloch movement is nearing its destination. Efforts are being made to unify the rank of Baloch leaders.”

When asked about the recent killing of his sister and niece in Karachi, Brahamdagh said that such brutalities will not compel him to withdraw or surrender from the struggle.

He also lashed out at the ultra-conservative Difa-e-Pakistan Council, which has announced a public gathering on February 27 in solidarity with the Baloch people. “Where were they when Baloch women, children and youth were being picked up and brutally killed by security forces? There is no influence of Jihadi elements in Balochistan. These religious parties are backed by security agencies,” he said.

Sad that he didn't tell the reporters that he is also pissed that his ancestral home in Dera Bugti is occupied by his opponents and those people his grand father used to oppress. Will he ask for foreign help to regain that too?

Loser.

Everyone had their mind, Pakistan had hundred nukes. Well, it wouldn't save the country from collapse and more rebels. Russia received many propagandas pressures from West media and lost most of their eastern European counterparts.

Is there any hope to solve Balouchistan problems ?

Let us be realistic. Iran cannot pull off a Vietnam. No country can. US military is massively different in structure and capabilities in current times then it was during the duration of Vietnam war.

However, I believe that Iran should be less provocative in its statements. War will send Iran back to stone age and time of slavery like Iraq.

Talibans are doing a great job makng a second Vietnam . Get your head off the clouds and stop smoking weed. AMerica ain't no God . Granted we live different times but even other country learn how to counter attack aggression. YOur potato-couch TV watching fox news BS has made your mind go numb to the point that it might of killed some brain cells.

Pakistan should have ask the same sort of ISI offices and embassies in California near mexico border... without any checks and army should be allowed to move in vehicles without any checks

this will help us to sit on US economy backbone and facilitate people across the border .... it will keep US activities in Baluchistan to minimum and any move against Pakistan can be taken care of in California

This will also help us in getting $$$ from from trade across the border :P

Give the the same things which you are asking .... this is called give n take...
