In China's most developed city Shanghai, most of the childbearing couples are single children of their respective families; the fertility rate is only 0.7 percent, the lowest in major cities in the world.

I find it funny that just because china's fertility rates are not as high as the 70s, the China basher are beginning using this as a doom and gloom scenario to push China into receiving low life from 4th world countries.

China don't have a good public services, like free or cheap healthcare or something.

Low fertility rate and massive elderly population mean nothing anyway. Elder people will just die, no burden for young work forces to keep them alive unlike Singapore and Japan.
