Straight A's means you are average among a group of Chinese students
Obviously, BeyondHeretic never read the New York Times article where a white Columbia University graduate student said that earning an "A" in biochemistry was the hardest challenge in his life. He said the entire class was composed of ethnic Chinese and he had never worked that hard.
To Chinese, the white Columbia graduate student in biochemistry was merely average.
Stand among a group of ethnic Chinese students. They are all experts in their field. You need to do something extraordinary to impress them. Knowing the subject matter in detail means you're only average.
