Religious mumbo jumbo in South Asia is its downfall. If you look at China they do none of that bs. If a religion start to get too powerful as in Buddhism in Tang Dynasty era, it would get crushed no matter which religion it is so the state is independent from religion and the people were more focused on science and tech. Also China historically was highly organised.
