I think rather than these protests and yelling slogans...a more appropriate response would be economical boycott.

If the Muslim nations had some balls they would realize how much power(economically) they have together. If all Muslim countries simply boycott all trade with that country...stop buying products of that country...and increase prices of anything they export from Muslim countries(essential things like oil)...they will be on their knees before long and think twice before attempting such a thing next time.

Dutch anti-Islam lawmaker Geert Wilders says he has canceled a planned Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest following death threats and concerns other people could be put at risk.

In a written statement issued Thursday night, Wilders said “to avoid the risk of victims of Islamic violence, I have decided not to let the cartoon contest go ahead.”

Wilders, who has for years lived under round-the-clock protection because of death threats sparked by his fierce anti-Islam rhetoric, said he does not want others endangered by the contest he planned for November.

The contest was to have been held at the tightly guarded offices of his Party for Freedom in the Dutch parliament building.

It was the subject of protests in Pakistan on Wednesday.

No, this is a bad idea. A few bigots and idiotic far right types in Europe and the US do not warrant any sort of response. These creatures live off your attention and being in the public view, it doesn't matter to them whether the commentary on them is negative or positive. They feed off of your outrage.

Taking any action at all is to assign them more importance than they are worth. And if you don't mind me saying, this state level response suggestion is a terrible idea. Such action cuts both ways, why damage ourselves too in the process and use such political capital on such people?

In responding in this way, it also paints a negative image of us too, and the goal of stopping provocative acts isn't achieved, you will only add more fuel. I wish Muslims around the world would realise this, their responses matter, however for some reason they are convinced that increasing the level of outrage is somehow a good idea, when in fact the opposite is true.

We could have boycotted certain companies of their's like Unilever, but we couldn't do anything about trade as they are part of EU's single market.
But still our New Government handled it very well.

Such a contest was held in Texas 3 years ago. Geert Wilders partook in this event. I think he saw this as a political tool to further his political agenda in the Netherlands due to the provocative nature of it. The intention of the organizers is clear, they want to incite a culture war. At the event they had heavily armed guards because they knew it would incite a reaction. A downward spiraling situation is exactly what they want. It is all to build a narrative and draw lines within society.
