What's new

During partition of 1947, was south immune from that violence?

.
I guess leave alone South India, not even the North India outside Punjab and J&K were affected by this violence.

.
nope. my mother's side migrated from south india to e. Pakistan and moved to west in the 50s. they saw plenty of violence leaving south india...

Yea it was pretty much immune depending on you definition of South India. For me, I consider Kerala and Tamil Nadu to be the real South India.......very little incidents of violence.

What part of South India? I don't think I've ever heard of incidents South of Mumbai.

. . . . .
Surprising.. Kannadigas are the most docile people. Mysore is not even close to Hyderabad Karnataka.
You'd be surprised how much the indian history books have hidden from you.

Thank God both my mother's family and my father's family migrated.

. .
Dude, don't know the exact dates for obvious reasons but both families migrated in the late 1947 and late 1948 range. Father's family migrated first from simla direct to the west, mothers family migrated later from meysoor to the east and ten years later to the the west.

Eleven thousand people were killed in KURUKSHETRA (HARYANA)

For your information,

Haryana and Himachal Pradesh were part of Punjab. Haryana was carved out of Punjab in 1966 and Himachal Pradesh was carved out of Punjab in 1971. Even today, Punjab and Haryana have a common capital, Chandigarh. And there are many Punjabi speaking areas in HP. People of Haryana and HP are similar to Punjab. So Haryana or HP are not the regions outside of Punjab.
