Dhaka University Central Students Union vice-president Nurul Haque Nur and his organisation Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council are going to form a new political party.

The council’s convener Hasan Al Mamun told New Age on Friday that they would make the announcement shortly in a press conference.

Nurul Haque in a Facebook video on Tuesday disclosed that as part of party formation they had already formed a youth council, a workers’ council and an expatriates’ council.

He also said that the party would priorities the demands of young generation through welcoming them in the party activities.

The party will work independently and will not join hands with the Bangladesh Awami League or the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, he said.

Nur further said that they were rather working to establish new dimensional politics in the country as country’s age-old political parties failed to meet the demands of people.

Nurul Haque on Friday told New Age that currently they were working to set up their student wings across the country.

‘Once the coronavirus situation is over, we will formally float our party,’ he added.

Hasan Al Mamun said that their party would work towards a Bangladesh which was promised during the liberation war.

He further said that they were also contacting with university teachers, intellectuals and other professionals while many of them also shown interest in the new organisation.

Nur and his Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council came into limelight after they launched a movement demanding reform in the quota system in government jobs.

Later Nurul Haque and Akhtar Hossain were elected vice-president and social service affairs secretary respectively from the council in DUCSU election on March 11, 2018.

At the student level, he's a good leader. His also very nationalistic but I think he needs more maturity to be running against the hard hitters in the big leagues.

Besides, BAL & BCL have a problem with this guy, so I don't see him being able to achieve much, as they will hamper his attempts at anything meaningful.

In the first few years, he need to maintain a low profile, avoid street activities and avoid confrontation with the govt. Mean times he needs to concentrate only on public relation and organizing his party. He should shelve his street agitation for at least up to 2024 election. Just before the election, he should comes to the streets in a big way. This would be the best policy concerning the prevailing political climates in BD.

Like Bangladeshi version of PTI ? There is a connection I see. There are similarities between Imran Khan and this VP Nur . The difference is Imran khan was one of the greatest cricketer the world has ever seen . On the other hand Nur came from lower middle class background and actually such people represent Bangladesh . They are not isolated like pure middle class or upper middle class .

However for Quota Movement he gained huge popularity in Bangladesh .He respect Bangabandhu , inspired by freedom fight , so no one can tag them as Razakar or pro Pakistan .

I was waiting for such day when he will be declared to form a new party . Thankfully Jatiya party is not going to be the 3rd political party .

However Imran khan was mostly popular because of cricket . We do not have such popular cricketer to form a political party and in Bangladeshi reality even if we had such popular player , they can not form such political party , but they would choose to support the establishment .

But VP nur and his kind got huge popularity because of Quota movement and they are such group of young people who compelled AL govt to abolish quota system ,where BNP failed to hold the ground for 5 minutes .

I also wish them best of Luck . After Hasina resigns , my vote will be for the party of VP Nur .

Exactly my opinion except one thing . They should not come to street with full force before 2024 election , but just after it .. They should be like , " তোমারে বধিবে যেই , গোকুলে বাড়িছে সেই" type !

I would not use any singular number here mate . I prefer to use they . A single person VP Nur may not go too far , but such type of boys will go too far and will be the real kandari/captain of Bangladesh . There are many student leaders from Quota movement and safe street movement you saw already . They represent common class.

This will be the key to their success . Since they have problem with BCL , so non AL people will be supporting them . Yes they will not be bigger overnight . But I think in 5/7 years they will be the major headache for AL/BCL.
