Those killed in drone strike stated to be Arab nationals
December 27, 2013
PESHAWAR: All the three men died in US drone strike in North Waziristan Agency on Wednesday night were stated to be foreigners, probably Arab nationals.
Taliban sources said the drone had fired two missiles and hit a small house at Qutabkhel village cited five kilometers southeast of North Waziristan’s headquarters Miranshah.
It was first attack by the CIA-operated spy plane in December in the volatile North Waziristan tribal region.
Tribal sources said armed men, believed to be militants, as usual arrived in the village after the drone strike and held siege of the targeted compound. “They themselves pulled out bodies of the slain men from rubbles of the building and immediately taken them to an unknown place,” a resident of Qutabkhel village said on telephone.
Pleading anonymity, he said they were told that some guests were killed in the drone strike but were not militants. The term ‘guest’ he said is being referred to foreign fighters, mostly Arab militants, in Pakistani tribal areas along the Afghan border. There was however no further information about nationality and identity of the drone victims.
Local villagers said four unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) were seen on Wednesday circling over Miranshah and its adjoining villages.
Pakistani Taliban seem happy with Pakistan’s Tehrik-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan’s initiative of suspending Nato supplies via Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a mark of protest over drone strikes, but it could not force US to stop its deadly missile strikes in Fata.
