Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has inaugurated first ever drive-in cinema in Islamabad today (Friday).

Speaking on the occasion, the Interior Minister congratulated Capital Development Authority and other private partners for launching this initiative.

He asked the administration of cinema to reduce the proposed ticket price from one thousand to fifty rupees per car.
The drive-in cinema is located at F-9 Park in Islamabad and it will enable the fans to watch movies while sitting in their cars. The movies will be screened on Friday, Saturday and Sunday..

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many things wrong here, to establish my credibility to speak (write) on this subject a little summary of my professional background, I work Cinema industry, i make Cinemas for living, I am certified engineer from Barco and Kinoton 3D projectors and also i used to run Atrium Cinema Karachi and was technical head behind Centaurus Cinema Islamabad being part of Mandviwalla Entertainment.

35 years back i experienced by first ever Drive In Cinema in Karachi Pakistan where now Gulistan-e-Johar is, there were not one not two but THREE drive in Cinema's here at that time so this claim of FIRST EVER is nothing but unresearched bullshit.

Secondly from the picture i can tell you that setup is weird, the truss being used does not seem to be the industry standard and God knows what projectors / sound processors they are using there.

Sorry for the rant but thora personal and touchy subject hai tu jazbati hu giya :p

You are right. I know those cinemas and I watched movie there. You know how pakistani media works.

Drive in cinema. A rare artefact preserved from mankind's golden age as a species. Pleased that it has had a mini revival of late.

Islamabad's newly opened drive-in cinema has received a "massive response", the capital's deputy commissioner Muhammed Hamza Shafqaat has said.

The deputy commissioner, sharing photographs of the cinema, said that he eyes improving it in the future.

"Stay safe Islamabad and enjoy," he added.

Speaking to APP last month, Shafqaat had said drive-in movie theatres have the advantage of in-person viewing while staying in the comfort, privacy, and safety of your own vehicle.

“Social distancing is built-in, as cars are often parked six or more feet away from each other and proper COVID-19 protocols make it easier to have fun yet stay safe,” he added.

The cinema was opened a day earlier, in a bid to provide entertainment to people during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is located at the Parade Ground adjacent to the Islamabad Highway.

The project was launched by the Capital Development Authority in collaboration with Jazz and Active Media Pakistan. Movies will be premiered from Friday to Sunday at 5:30pm.

Meanwhile, according to Dawn, Federal Minister for Interior Sheikh Rasheed has ordered a reduction for the cinema ticket from Rs100 to a mere Rs50 per car.
