Dress material from Pakistan a hit here
LUDHIANA: In love with finer things in life, the city residents have fallen in love with the dress materials like suits and sarees from Pakistan, which were put up for sale during Baisakhi fair.
One of the city-based designers, who specializes in chicken work dress material, had invited one of the traders from Pakistan to participate in the exhibition of Baisakhi fair in Flamez Mall that started on April 8. Organizers now plan to extend the exhibition by 7-10 days. Earlier, the exhibition was scheduled to conclude on April 24.
Monika Aggarwal, a resident of Sarabha Nagar and one of the exhibitors in Bhaisakhi fair, said she has exhibited Luckhnavi chicken work. 'It is the specialty from the city of nawabs and the people here loves wearing handcrafted suits with special thread work,' she said. Besides this, residents were also looking for Pakistani suits and sarees and that is why she informed one of the traders in Delhi, Mohammad Shahid, and he contacted his brothers in Pakistan. She said if every person starts thinking of people living across the border as their brothers and sisters, the two countries could share a healthy relationship.
Mohammad Shahid told that his brother and relatives lives in Lahore and Karachi and they have the business of suits and sarees in kainari and in gumdi bazzar and also have the business set up in Dubai. He told that his brother Talim Ahmed will join them soon from Dubai as he is on the business tour. Shahid said it seems that residents of both the countries will help each other in business will smoothen the ties of the two countries that share lifestyle; eating habits.
Mohammad Mosin, joined the exhibition said embroidered, crochetted suits and sarees from Pakistan are in demand here. He said he is selling these Pakistani dress materials from the long time but he is overwhelmed to see the response of people in the city as they want the best dress material as money does not matter much.
