DRDO to be build next Generation Phalcons AEW&C for IAF

I think India should go for Airbus or Boeing if they want to procure more Phalcons..because procuring Il-76 is problematic.we should procure few more Phalcons and we must develop more capable one simultaneously.though i thought India will procure more DRDO AEW&CS..do anybody know about any further order on that???

let the first plane land in india, indian army is very exited about the plane is willing to buy more. but we need to see how it works with the radar integerated and then we could more orders.

and if u see the plane carefully, it looks like a true world class product much better than the similiar class saab erieye. it will surely get some foreign orders. maybe brazil and india can jointly sell this plane.

.
its nothing like piece of cake everythings takes time n specially if u r dealing with DRDO

Otherewise tell me why saab still struck with Erieye when they developed it in 1996 n not selling something like awacs:argh:

Making an working AESA was ALSO not a piece of cake but DRDO still acheived that haven't they ??? I'm not a huge fan of DRDO but lets give them some credit and have some faith on them especially when they make something OPERTIONAL. Lets wait to see how this system performs and then gives green flag for the further upgrade and orders.

BTW "necessity is the mother of invention" why would SAAB will upgrade their system especially when there customers don't ask have that requirement.

I m not denying that DRDO didn't did a good job with the limited resources it has

But point here is India is in dire need for awacs (atleast 2 phalcons if nothing more) n DRDO has not much experience in this field so expecting miracles from them over night is ridiculous

My point is ofcourse DRDO can make good awacs but it will take atleast 5-7 year to be matured enough to counter phalcons
Even the smaller awacs that DRDO is making won't be delivered before 2015

So how r we suppose to fill the gap in between:undecided:

I would recommend go for atleast 2 phalcons fitted on airbus or boeing if not more n if we have to pay more make sure we get all the technological intake required by DRDO for making something like phalcons

That way not only IAFs current requirements will be fulfilled but also DRDO will get the necessary boost to complete the project on time:azn:

Leave the rest of your post first tell me why we are we in a dire need of A POTENT AWACS ?? AWACs is not just a big radar riding on the back of a lumpy plane capable of intercepting and tracking aerial targets its a system which is instrumental in having a well coordinated C4I army . And I am sure you are completely aware of our Army's current C4I capability.

Not to mention the other system needed to bulid too like high number of UAVs , Battle field radars , reconnance equipment yadda yadda yadda.

.
don't u understand the difference between this aircraft:

& this one:

India's+DRDO+Indigenous+AWACS+Aircraft_1.jpg

he is determined to troll. ignore him

ON TOPIC> very good news

indigenous AE&W will be cheaper and large share of money will go back into Indian Defense Industry as Radar of AWACS will be built by DRDO

It's a modified Erieye...

its Embraer EMB 145SA and its Brazilian

First thing don't answer me if u don't read my full post

Secondly, Brother the only thing thats stopping IAF from procuring Phalcon awacs is the sudden sharp increase in prices otherwise they would have done it long time back

the reason i said dire need was currently we have only 3 awacs n if one of them down for repairs or any other purposes then we will be left with only 2 of them n that won't be sufficient for IAF

Even we don't know much about the smaller awacs that DRDO has been making as it will take nothing less than 2015 for it to become fully operational n it won't take them 5-7 years(considering their past record) for a fully developed 360 degree awac that would mean atleast 2017-18

Whereas our opponents r continuosly increasing there awacs pakistan will soon be operating 8 awacs let alone china

So what do u suggest we do in the mean time just keep on waiting for DRDO to do some miracle like they have been doing with tejas, kaveri n what not:argh:

How many of you remember this?

DRDO had all the knowhows for a 360 degree coverage radar since the early 90s, all they need is a little push from the government.

Sir can u plz elaborate a bit bcoz i suppose most us don't know much about this:undecided:

.
if i am not wrong LSTAR active phased array radar will be used in DRDO awacs

. .
@jackhammer2
further don't mix Awacs with C4I ofcourse they help in C4I but the primary user is airforce n its an airborne radar system designed to detect aircraft at long ranges and control and command the battle space in an air engagement by directing
fighter and attack plane strikes.
Used at a high altitude, the radars on the aircraft allow the operators to distinguish between friendly and hostile aircraft hundreds of
miles away.

Plus Indian army is still developing its C4I system n its no where so much developed that we can scrap awacs n behalf of C4I

if i know correctly this was INDIA's first AWACS project , but it crashed . since then the project was abandoned .

DRDO was making an AWACs back in the 90s with 360 degree radar coverage, and the rotodome was fixed in a Hawker Siddeley HS 748 platform, the AWACs was fairly successful but the project was ultimately cancelled after a fatal crash in 1999 in which it's chief engineers and scientists died.
