Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) has an impressive range of equipment in its armoury to offer to the Forces battling ambushes from across the border and also attacks by the insurgency groups within the country. A significant chunk of equipment and gizmos developed by the DRDO has been inducted into defence forces and paramilitary forces and in some cases, technology has been transferred for commercial production. Officials said their mass induction perhaps can further aid in tackling such situations but added that terrain and length of the surveillance area play major role in making such decisions.

Senior DRDO officials, speaking to TOI, cited the example of Battle Field Surveillance Radar – Short Range (BFSR-SR) being used by armed forces. “BFSR-SR is a battery-powered, light-weight, man-portable surveillance radar. It can search a specified sector and can simultaneously track multiple targets and carry out doppler based classification of various ground surface targets”, said a DRDO official adding that the radar has a low probability of being intercepted and has the ability to detect, track and classify a crawling man (at a distance of 700 m), single man walking (3 km) and moving heavy vehicles (14 km).

Battle Field Surveillance Radar sets off an audio alarm on detection of new target over fenced area while multiple targets can be simultaneously tracked in Track-while-scan (TWS) mode and is capable of working in all-weather conditions including high-wind speeds. ”

It has made round the clock surveillance of forward areas more effective. The radar is a potential sensor for Border Security Force, Coast Guard and Army. The networked BFSR-SR can provide online situational awareness at control centre”, the officer said.

‘Netra’ is another such DRDO product which is a fully autonomous, light-weight Unmanned Aerial Vehicle developed specifically for counter insurgency operations which require day and night vision facilities for surveillance and reconnaissance. “Equipped with auto -pilot and in-built safety features, it returns to base on communication loss or low battery”, said the official, adding that ‘Netra’ is ideal for deployment and recovery in confined areas of operation.

Another device, which can be a major asset for our soldiers is the Integrated Multi-Function Sight which will soon be made available to the armed forces in thousands. This light-weight and compact device consists of Thermal Imager (TI) and a Laser Range Finder (LRF) and is capable of operating during day and night. “Used for surveillance and speedy engagement of targets by the soldier, this equipment is capable of measuring the target range as well as its own position and can also compute the location co-ordinates of the target,” said the official.

Low Level Light Weight Radar, ‘Bharani’ provides early warning to Army and Air Defence Weapon Systems mainly in mountainous terrain against hostile aerial agents like Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft flying at low and medium altitudes. “The radar has ‘Identification of Friend or Foe system that can detect, confirm, classify and attain IFF status on every target in battlefield under surveillance”, the official averred.

DRDO should develop Chilli mortars similar to the chilli grenades. IA should deploy the mortars on the LOC. Once used, it will make the PA soldiers run away without causing any harm to life. NON conventional weapons should seriously be considered for LOC.

Low level Light Weight 2D Radar - BHARANI: Low level Light Weight L-Band 2D Radar is a light weight, battery powered and compact sensor which provides 2D surveillance solution to alert Army Air Defence Weapon Systems mainly in mountainous terrain against hostile aerial targets like UAVs, RPVs, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft flying at low and medium altitudes. The radar can be transported by vehicles, animal transport or group of men or as helislung loads. It can be dismantled into packages to facilitate quick installation and re-location in mountainous terrain. It will act as an early warner to air defence weapon systems employed to provide protection to vulnerable areas or vulnerable points.
The system consists of radar, Commander Display Unit (CDU) and messaging unit Target Designation Unit (TDU) and Target Data Receivers (TDR). One radar can service upto 10 TDRs using existing combat radio resources/ network. The CDU can be located upto 750m from the radar. The radar with modular architecture, advanced ECCM features, ruggedness as per Mil standards can be operated in varied conditions including extreme climatic and geographical conditions and in battle field situations, especially offensive EW environment. The radar detects and tracks short range air-to-ground threats with a high probability of detection. The radar has an integrated IFF that can detect, confirm, classify and attain IFF status on every target in the battle space under surveillance.

Chilli mortars?!

Out of Bhoot Jholokia?

Dude, if even one hits them, they will wish they were shot dead instead.

The burning would give them a torturous death.

Anthony to the UAV:

"I am so not going to select you for the Army. Madam says importing a costlier one from abroad would be better and would also comfort our pockets". :P

It wont kill them but incapacitate them and make the area or the post very hard to operate from.

It wont' kill them but a hit from one will make them wish they were dead(as in better off being dead than the pain).

If you're trying to be humane to the enemies, trust me, a bhoot jholokia mortar shell/grenade is the last thing you'd call as 'humane'.

I am more concerned about rendering their area/post/Man inoperable by unconventional means. Bullets can be escaped by taking cover, but chilli mortars will render their posts atmosphere inoperable for a long period.

LOL..we're not killing them, are we???they'll simply panic and run...we should develop CBU-105 type bomb armed with concentrated juice from bhoot Dholakia..deadlier than tactical nukes...and then,we should post the video in youtube... :omghaha:

you mean,we should spray it along LOC???they'll not dare to cross LOC after that..

Yeah, Spray it or in any other way use it when the try to infiltrate or start firing at our posts.

we should put mine field across LOC

.
How integrated are these products with the IA? It should not be a case of modern technology lying waste because of apathy.

we should put mine field across LOC

Problem is laying these mines,as PA obviously won't allow that in open sight.WE should use MBRLs to lay mines en masse, however in many cases the 2 sides are too close and artillery can't be used as they might land on us.
