The New York Times story, published with the headline "In Renovation of Golf Club, Donald Trump Also Dressed Up History," historians disputed the veracity of a plaque that sits between the 14th hole and the 15th tee of one of the club’s two courses.

The plaque, which is attached to a flagpole on a stone pedestal overlooking the Potomac, reads: "Many great American soldiers, both of the North and South, died at this spot. The casualties were so great that the water would turn red and thus became known as 'The River of Blood.' It is my great honor to have preserved this important section of the Potomac River!"

A Trump family crest appears under the inscription, along with Trump's full name. The plaque purportedly designates that portion of the Potomac as "The River of Blood."

According to the Times story, three historians asserted that no such battle or designation has ever been given to that spot.

"No. Uh-uh. No way. Nothing like that ever happened there," Richard Gillespie, the executive director of the Mosby Heritage Area Association, told the Times. "The only thing that was remotely close to that" was something that took place 11 miles up the river. The conflict there was known as the Battle of Ball's Bluff, took place in 1861 and involved several hundred deaths on the Union side.

Well the Seneca Creek is on the other side of the Potomac. You can see it in the top of the pic on the other side of the river from the golf course. It's the only river access to/from the North around. The inlet is opposite the golf course (can't see it). People would probably be killed trying to sneak up or down it. Either by rowing along the river and trying to turn into/out of it or by crossing both ways. The Potomac is dividing the North and South line. Left is Maryland (North) while to the right is Virginia (South). There was probably heavy defenses on both sides right there near the Seneca Creek.

So while there may not have been a full battle there it still was probably a killing zone.

I think the flagpole is located at the bottom of the pic. You can see the creek inlet access directly across from it.

Edit: A little beyond the bottom right of that pic there's a flag. Doesn't show up in Google maps but shows in Microsoft's.

It doesn't say anything about a "battle" on the plaque. It just says people were killed there.
So Trump may have a great argument that people/media are turning the plaque into "fake news" by claiming he said there was a battle there...when CLEARLY the writing does not.

"The River of Blood
Many great American soldiers, both of the North and South, died at this spot. "The Rapids", on the Potomac River. The casualties were so great that the water would turn red and this became known as "The River of Blood"
It is my great honor to have preserved this important section of the Potomac River"

After this I'm now beginning to think Trump may be right about "fake news" out to get him. Why is the media talking about a battle?
So I think people should stop quickly jumping to conclusions when they read something.

The Liberal Left seems to be doing the same stuff the ultra-Right used to be notorious for doing.

How's that Who song go...
"The Party on the Left is now the Party on the Right..."
