. . . . .
Starting a Business proceedings, Dealing with Construction Permits, Enforcing Contracts, Resolving Insolvency, these factors fare bad in India.

But it doesnt matter much, since the actual businesses started here is more than all the nations combined. :pop:

The cost of doing business in the North is not same as West or South. What lot of people who get caught up in the nation wide indices is that, the Western and Southern states of India are way better and business friendly compared to Northern and Eastern India.

North or South .. there is this "bribing" problem.

The only positive is now all the states have actually started competing for their share of business houses. The graph will look brighter in near future.

Until then enjoy the lower rankings.

Using an axe when scalpel is needed. I do not disagree with corruption, there are definitive distinction among regions and their business friendliness.

I would imagine doing any sort of business would be hard in India.

Even from my personal experience, everywhere I went in India, people were trying to get money out of me by charging ridiculous prices on any goods that I bought. The fact that I was a foreigner somehow translated to dollar sign to them. I can't imagine doing business with these people.

I didn't face this issue in East Asia, Europe or America.

I also heard everything in India works through corruption.

I was generalizing.

If taken state-wise there are much improved states.

Inspite of all these hues, money has been flowing in manufacturing sectors, share markets, automobile, IT, infrastructure, agri business, aerospace and defence sectors, retain, entertainment and consumer goods and continuing to do so.

So we are not complaining.

And I'm happy for you that all this is happening.

But the points that I raised, are also real problems. I hope with the advancement in education and overall prosperity among Indian people, I won't have to face such issues anymore during my next visit.

Depends on what kind of business you were trying. If you are seeking a third party vendor, chances of clean business improve dramatically. If you trying to establish a local entity and interact with bureaucracy, then chances are you have to indulge in paying bribes.

Starting a small or medium sized business is still a nightmare. but as someone pointed out it depends on the region , the respective state government's policy and attitude.

Think about how much more investment India would get if it wasn't for endless maze of corruption and bureaucracy.

India needs to streamline the process of starting a business.

I was surprised to see Bangalore and other South Indian cities in the bottom half of the list. I expected it to be the other way round.
