The Poonch rebellion and the liberation of Azad Kashmir was the reaction of local residents against atrocities of Dogra rulers. Poonch was a princely state with it's own culture, language and ethnic groups consists of Sudhans (Sadozais), Dhoond Abbasi, Maldiyal Mughals etc. Raja Ranjit singh desired to capture this area to enlarge his dynasty and state. He ordered his Generals to capture this area by force and crush every resistance. The local residents fought with honor and courage but due to limited resources and traitors Dogra army successfully captured many areas of Poonch. Dozens of Sudhans involved in resistance movement skinned alive at Mong in front of Raja Gulab singh and their families were thrown in jails.
About 80,000 Sudhans were recruited and served in the British Army during the first and second World Wars. When they returned back they have a experience to deploy military strategy and to use latest military equipment.
