So why do Chinese get huge racial hatred for killing 10,000 dogs in a dog meat festival when Vietnamese kill 500x more dogs? Mainland Chinese aren't even the ones who are eating shark fin soup - most shark fin soup goes to Taiwan and Hong Kong. So why do we get blamed? Why are they only Chinese when they eat shark fin soup and import rhino horn, but not Chinese elsewhere? You can't have it both ways. No hypocrisy.

I'm not mad at you personally. You are one of the most evenheaded Americans here. Unfortunately many others are blind to their privilege and disrespectful the cultures of others while holding a double standard.

Regarding the rest of your comment. I agree with you, and certainly understand why you're frustrated with some here. Unfortunately, ignorance and double standards have no borders. There is more then enough to go around.

I'd like somebody to explain why eating dogs is outrageous, while eating cows or buffalos or camels apparently isn't. They all have a high level of cognition and sensience, if that's the criterion.

We should export the street dogs of Karachi to South Korea and China, especially if we can earn something from it... I think such an agreement was signed between S.Korea and Pakistan during the Musharraf Period. Personally maybe I say this because I don't like dogs... but its a good opportunity to earn some money.

It is far cheaper to breed dogs than to import them.

It's not racial, it's cultural. Many in the west see dogs as pets, as cute companions. But yes, it is hypocritical to deride dog eating, when equally sentient animals are eaten in the west.

Here people eat rabbit meat. And that can it be seen as disgusting in others countries.

Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.

Personally I see unhealthy eat meat of any kind. And I see ethically disgusting eat meat and fish. But I dont judge anyone for that.

In my opinion, China is nobody's best friend, so its for Pakistan to cogitate and tread cautiously.
I see India-China-Pak relationship as a love triangle, where Pakistan is an insecure BF, India is a handsome neighbour with whom China flirts, occasionally though.

May be India would like to host such a festival for their trading partners to the North? After all, one way of projecting soft power as the new superpower is to highlight their own cultural and social practices globally. May be it is time for the world to enjoy the wonders of the rest of Chinese cuisine, not just kung pao chicken?

Let me remind you that North easterners in India do eat dog-meat. But India maintains strictly "professional relations" with China, so I don't think we need such festivals to boost our friendship.

But that is exactly the point. Why should Asians tolerate their demonization by the Western media any longer? Let them proudly project their practices as they rise in the world. The First International Dog Meat Festival in Guwahati?

But I am sure you can think of other similar moves along the spirit of what I have suggested. Think about it, as my suggestion does have deep merit.
