Does Britain really need the military?

Does Britain need a military? I'd say yes, or else this will happen again.

Granted I'm ok with the first option:D. Gotta keep those French in check though:whistle:.

*those are Viking raids against the British isles and the Norman Conquest of English for you non-historical yahoos.
well we can always call our boy across the pond to come help out their old man.

depend on how you define invade. nowadays you dont even need an army to topple a country, we should know.

No one does not. Brazil's president was o̶v̶e̶r̶t̶h̶r̶o̶w̶n̶ ̶b̶y̶ ̶U̶S̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶e̶l̶l̶i̶g̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ succumbed to incompetence, bad governance and corruption and installed a former US intelligence asset.

'Merica? We'd conquer you too:sarcastic:. And Canada while we're at it.

Or we would if you weren't already a state:p:.

Nobody knows tomorrow not you not me. So let's first live for today, the topic is about Britain and our military and you are here talking about how India investments means India is gonna take over Britain and be a superpower . Lol Heard that so many times already. if we were to use investment to judge this then the U.S will be our subordinate since we are the largest foreign investor in the U.S BY FAR(and the largest G20 investor in India as well. Lol.)

Reality say others Wise Pal
In 2014 alone, investment from India into the UK increased by 64%, and is now almost level with France, the UK's second-largest investor after the US. just imagine it after Brexit Son in decade we take over

Throughout last year, India invested in 122 projects in the UK, compared with 124 for France and 564 for the US. This meant that Indian investment created 7,730 new UK jobs in 2014, and safeguarded a further 1,620, said UKTI.

Yet this is just the tip of an iceberg when it comes to UK firms owned by Indian businesses.

sounds like a plan. which trees do you prefer, oak or horse chessnut ?

I'd say let's together develop a new kind of tree and call it "Tree of peace". "L'arbre de paix",to forge our new warm relations and look into the future together.
-
But that doesn't mean we can't p*ss off each others and have a patriotic seizure from time to time. :enjoy: @mike2000 is back @Kaptaan

the seeds of freedom need to be accurate:devil::enjoy:

They never took a penny out in the sense your describing. Have a look around? Is Afghanistan rich? This "stolen" thing is so stupid and immature thing to say. If the British had not come there would have been no Pakistan. No Pakistan Army.

Sir, it would still be Kingdom of Mughals...most probably turned into a constitutional monarchy with some Mughal King as the Monarch and a PM elected with the votes of people.

By the way stealing, you don't need to look further than your old queen...she shamelessly has a diamond called kohinoor in her crown...so enough of that.

Speaking of Britain and conquering, ever wondered why movies, even if they take place in foreign nations, are always in English?

I sure did:D.

you take brazil and we take the universe....mowahahahahaha.
oh by the way we need some oil for our interstellar space ships, hope you dont mind sharing with your old man.

Sir, it would still be Kingdom of Mughals
Incorrect. When the British arrived in Indus region, the Sikhs ruled Punjab all the way to Peshawar, Sindh was ruled by Mir of Talpur and part of Balochistan was under Khan of Khalat. Moghul Empitre was well past it's zenith and was reduced to around Delhi. The Mahratas were on warpath in South India.

Look below at the region that is now Pakistan. You have Sikh Empire, Kalat, Sindh etc

sikh_empire_2013.03.03.jpg

and the dates when British defeated Sikhs and Sindhi to annex them to British India. Sikh Empire (Punjab) in 1849 and Sindh in 1843.

Like I said. Thank the British.

Now Back to topic.

Six months ago I proposed in the Guardian that if Britain was short of money it should cut defence. I did not mean reduce defence, or trim defence. I meant cut it altogether. We are desperately short of money and absolutely no one is threatening to attack us now or in the foreseeable, indeed conceivable, future. Besides, as we have seen this past week, other ways of ensuring security make more pressing claims on us. We just do not need an army, navy or air force. So why are we paying £45bn for them?

We are not desperately short of money, we are one of the most powerful economies in the world, and have military clout to back it. No one will take an island seriously without the ability to project power. The military is part and parcel of British life, and an institution that has basked the country in glory many times

Britain doesn't need the military. India can provide the protection that Britain needs. ;) after all until 1947, India was a colony of Britain.

Right. Protect yourselves.
