Pakistan: DJ who played music for Imran Khan's rallies arrested

According to PTI officials, DJ Butt was arrested at 4am, Dawn online reported.

"The government should immediately release all PTI workers, including DJ Butt," the party tweeted.

Butt met PTI chairman Imran Khan Peshawar in 2011.

From there onwards, his career took off as a DJ for PTI rallies.

The protests led by Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Tahir-ul-Qadri began August 15 in an attempt to overthrow Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, whom they have accused of rigging the 2013 general elections.

As of now, the PTI and PAT are currently engaged in talks with the federal government to broker a settlement over the political impasse that had gripped the country for weeks.

ISLAMABAD: DJ Butt, the man of the musical hour at Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's (PTI) rallies, was arrested on Friday from Islamabad’s Constitution Avenue.

Sources told Dawn that DJ Butt was arrested in the wee hours of Friday at around 4 am.

Central Information Secretary PTI Dr Shireen Mazari condemned the arrest of DJ Butt who she said was arrested from the Guest House where he was staying. She also condemned “the arrest of other workers from different parts of Islamabad”.

Mazari said “no law had been broken by DJ Butt who merely looked after the sound system at the Azadi dharna”. She demanded that DJ Butt and other party workers arrested by the government be released immediately.

She said the government should remove all containers from Islamabad, adding that IHC had already passed an order to that effect.

PTI also took to its Twitter account and demanded the release of Butt along with other party workers.





Butt, who comes from a musically inclined family, had met PTI chairman Imran Khan for the first time on April 22, 2011, a couple of days before his massive sit-in in Peshawar. From there onwards, his career took off as a DJ for PTI rallies and it hasn't looked back since.

اسلام آباد پولیس نے پاکستان تحریک انصاف کے دھرنے میں میوزک چلانے والے مشہور ڈی جے بٹ کی گرفتار کی تصدیق کر دی ہے۔ ایک پولیس اہلکار نے نام نہ بتانے کی شرط پر تصدیق کی کہ ڈی جے بٹ سے منشیات برآمد ہوئی ہیں جس کے بعد اسلام آباد پولیس نے انہیں حراست میں لے لیا۔

پولیس اہلکار کے مطابق ڈی جے بٹ کو جمعرات اور جمعہ کی درمیانی رات کو گرفتار کیا گیا۔ انہوں نے بتایا کے انہیں منشیات اور دفعہ ایک سو چوالیس کی خلاف ورزی کرنے کے تحت گرفتار کیا گیا ہے۔

پولیس اہلکار نے دعویٰ کیا کہ تحریک انصاف کے کارکنان کی مخبری پر ہی ڈی جے بٹ کو گرفتار کیا گیا ہے۔
