NEW YORK, Dec 18: A panel discussion titled “Understanding Mumbai Attacks” at New York’s Asia Society on Wednesday evening became a one-sided Pakistan bashing event, with writer Salman Rushdie taking the lead in berating Pakistan and its ruling “elite”.

Pakistan’s former ambassador to the United Nations Munir Akram had been invited as one of the panelists but he was suddenly taken off the panel to make it a one-sided affair.

Mr Akram told Pakistani reporters that he had accepted to be on the panel to defend his country, but a day before the discussion he was informed that the format had been changed. He was told that he would not be on the panel but that he could speak from the floor when called upon to do so. That arrangement was not acceptable to Mr Akram and he withdrew his name.:tsk:
Besides Rushdie, authors Mira Kamdar and Suketu Mehta were the other two panelists at the discussion organised jointly by the Asia Society, the South Asian Journalist Association and the Indo-American Arts Council. Vishakha Desai, an Indian-American, is the president of Asia Society.

“The headquarters of the Al Qaeda, the headquarters of the Taliban, the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba, the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammad is in the world centre of terrorism — Pakistan,” Rushdie told a packed auditorium of the Asia Society while participating in the discussion.

“All the roads of world terrorism lead to Pakistan,” he said.
:crazy::crazy::crazy:
The three Indian authors severely criticised Pakistan, accusing its leadership of not taking any action against terrorists and denying that those responsible for the Mumbai strike were Pakistanis despite “credible proof”.

Rushdie also lambasted the Bush administration for handing over billions of dollars in aid without ensuring that Pakistan was really fighting terrorism. “We have treated Pakistan with velvet gloves and what we have got in result is zero.”
Mehta called for declaring ISI a terrorist outfit, saying, “They are behind the attack on Indian Embassy in Kabul. They are behind the attacks in Bombay. They should be banned first and foremost for the sake of Pakistan itself.”

Many Pakistanis in New York are questioning the wisdom of Asia Society management to hold such a discussion which at the end became a Pakistan-bashing fest without inviting a credible voice from Pakistan to explain Pakistan’s position.:tsk::crazy:

Malaun Rushdie a worthless bastard. Forget about this BS. Move on......

from iran gov gold of his wait i think bastard has 80kg wait.

I wonder how you accumulate a wait of 80 Kg? :)
Just kidding

Anyways, Agree that Pakistani representation should have been there.

However, it might have been felt that the statements "This is a knee jerk reaction", "There is no proof", "No Proof has been shared", "Our investigation is ongoing" and finally "Pakistan condemns this attack on Mumbai in the strongest terms" could as well have been recorded and played back. :)

No wonder we also have many Rushdis dancing on Indian tunes barking against Pakistan.
What can you expect from one-sided bodies.

Well, Mr.Mehtha is really dumb.Honestly Indians are so ******* dumb.Blaming ISI..Let's face it ISI Is not that big to **** whole India.

It wuld have gone well with ur indian RANTING being alraedy dished out live on the show....'pakistan is involved'....'isi is behind this'.....'all roads lead to pakistan'...:blah::blah::blah:

One sided show of 'heroism' and 'intellect' from the 'democratic' india!! No surprise though..if munir had been invited that wuld have been a shocker.

salman rushdie...plz...the low level of human thought deserves no merit at all!! IGNORE

What a gross misrepresentation of the truth. Either Munir Akram and/or the journalist is/are liar(s).

Munir Akram was never invited to be on the panel; and needless to say nobody "suddenly removed him" from anything. Notifiers for this event were sent out around 10th of December which listed the three designated panelists (see text below), and there were no last minute changes to the format on the day before as he falsely claims.

Akram was invited to have his say as part of an input group that also included the Indian consul general Prabhu Dayal, and a representative from the Chabad-Lubavitch center in Brooklyn NY (whose emissaries rabbi Gaviel and Rivkah Holtzberg were murdered at the Nariman house)

Last month's horrifying terrorist attacks in India's financial capital were the deadliest in India’s recent memory. With almost 200 dead and hundreds more injured, the blasts have raised serious questions about the Indian government's readiness to deal with emergency crisis situations of such magnitude. The aftermath has already led to a number of “political casualties”. What are the ramifications for India’s internal political dynamics and external relations? Who were the attackers and what were their motives? How were they so destructive? Will the attacks have a negative impact on India’s slowing economy? Please join us for an evening conversation to discuss these issues, as well as to explore how interested individuals in New York can get involved in dealing with the aftermath, among other pertinent issues.

Please join us at Asia Society’s New York Headquarters or on line via live Webcast. Internet listeners will be able to ask questions and offer comments via email during the webcast. Please send your questions to moderator@asiasociety.org.

Multiple requests were sent to the Pakistan consulate to send either their consul general or one of their representatives. The program was delayed by almost half an hour because they were waiting for a representative to show up; but he never came and chose to send a message on line listing Pakistan's position instead.

Also, Sri Srinivasan (the SAJA president and co-organizer of this event) made it clear that this was merely one event in a wider series providing various points of views from varying specialists.

Looking to the posts here shows total radicalization of society in SA, this is same trend in India too. People are so blind and closed minded, they can not even listen a harsh point of view, though them self become so harsh start demanding for Head..... This is indication of failed society....
