Difference Between Punjabi spoken in Pakistan and India

^how many provinces do u need??

you will pay for the expenses of new chief minister, governor, cabinet etc etc????

sariki is geographical belt...its not not an ethnicity....tomorrow someone from potohar will start calling for province....new provinces wont solve your problem....there have been prime ministers and presidents from sariki belt....what have they done for you?grow up.....we dont need more province.....taxpayer cant afford it....

plus sariki region has no industry...majority of the agricultural land is barren........you will run your province on driver hotels and toll tax?

I don't see much difference when it come to speaking. I am pothwari but i understand all dialects of Punjabi in Pakistan as well as in India except may be few words but it may be because my father was in army and we lived in different cities of Pakistan and had interaction with people speak different dialects of punjabi and also had interaction with many Sikhs when went abroad

While the one spoken in Rawalpindi and adjoining areas is considered as Lucknowi Punjabi as it is more sweeter.

well neaver heard about lucknowi punjabi lol

Mostly local resident of rawalpindi and surrounding areas speak pothwari

Thanks God Indian Punjab is separated from Pakistan :D
Indian Punjabis have beaten 46% of Punjabis of Pakistan side, not even identifying Sarikies as a separate langauge...
At least Punjabis at Pakistan knows that it is different and they would not go for intermarriages...You need to see the voilent movement on Sariki to open your eyes at least please!

I've got one of my close friend and colleage (very nice) as hindko speaking and they would be incidently asking translation of Sarikies....Interestingly someone is saying it 99.9% Sariki...Yes it is true that Hinko person can speak Sariki but Punjabi (who has not listen in childhood would die but can not produce certain voices...)

All sindhi, Punjabi and Sariki, Hindko are Aryan languages and have similarities but they have distinctions if you recognisse or not...

Come on hindi and urdu problem in India is still not settled and still in open problems on these language, still they are very much close but have different identification....

When from years and Sariki movement is seen on Youtube

some one saying Punjabis 50-60% needs to be corrected..

We need to check the demographic distribution and language distribution in census, it is the recent census data of Pakistan:

As of 2009, the Punjabi population dominates with 78.7 million (44.15%), followed by 27.2 million (15.42%) Pashtuns, 24.8 million (14.1%) Sindhis, 14.8 million (10.53%) Seraikis, 13.3 million (7.57%) Muhajirs and 6.3 million (3.57%) Balochs. The remaining 11.1 million (4.66%) belong to various ethnic minorities.[226] There is also a large worldwide Pakistani diaspora, numbering over seven million.[227]

How close bold figures are whilss they can have provinces but Seraikis can not have...SHAME

those who still thinks sariki are exactly the same then they need to see the Gilanis speeches, Imran khan parties speeches in favor of Sarikiestan (Shah mahmood Qureshi), MQM speeches, Maulna fazalur Rehman speeches...All parties are in favor of Sarikistan province, but Punjab ruler Nawaz Sharif idiot would dieing and diplomatically going...Those who says that PPP is getting voting bank...shame to them who thinks like that, as by making province they are making happy 11% of Sarikis and making annoyed (rather death to prejudiced Pakistanis punjabis) 46%...So is this making sense....

I can not understand when all Pakistans parties and their constituion accepted Sarikie as a separate language what's wrong with other side of Punjab...Yes we know that most language in this area are getting more close to each other as we use more hindi/urdu word in our native languages...but if we put pure sariki language, It would be hard to decipher even to sarikis...

please guys see the difference of Punjabis on both side of the border and for God sake spare sariki oppresed people to let them have their right....interestingly there are indian who are saying that punjabi of both side different, but they are seeing sariki similar to Punjabi :D
yes many words are similar in these native languages except Pashto...

ok my friend dont get carried away, Sariaki, hindko, potohari, punjabi all have same roots and i would say they are all identical and speaker of one language can easily communicate with the others, I am hindko and have no problem communicating with Sariki or Punjabi or potohari....not many but 90% words are similar, assi and assan are same words, kithay and kithan are same...dont get too Jazbati I have travelled a lot in southern punjab and never had problem speaking and never heard anyone call their language Saraiki people use in general as punjabi, so are people in Talagang (my town) refer to hindko as punjabi.

This Forum is overflowing with Indians I am sure many will be able to shed some light on your and my post regarding the word for water in Sanskrit and Persians can confirm the word آب for water and it's origin in Persian.

It is just for zamzam that we use the word آب otherwise Pani is used for water

What I read is on the same line that it was called as "Panch-Nad" (Land of 5 river) before Panjab. Even in old Indian history books and traveler has mentioned the same. Later on it has been changed by the people as Panjab (called Apabhransh in Hindia {Phenomenon called twisting the words during ages} ).

Well how we pronounce is Punjab/panjab(panj =5, abb=water in persian) land of five rivers. The name of this geographical region is Persian in origin. Dont know what this region was called during Harappan civilization 3300 BCE : D

If you dont want to know how the names got evolved in this region then it can't be helped but every language and Place gets effected by the evolution of languages.

During Harappa to even Alexander's attack it has been referred as "Pancha-nad" and then referred as "Panj-aab" in Persian while think over it both have same meaning. Strange?? The crux is that both started from Sanskrit and dialects got changed later on.

Just to "Enlighten" you , Take another name of "Lahore". It has origin from Lava, Son of Lord Rama who ruled in that region (OMG! that old ) and known as Lava-awar (Fort of Lava) which changed later on Loh-awar and then Lahore.

I assume she meant that just like urdu in lucknow seem sweet and sophisticated .. Punjabi in rawalpindi is lucknowi punjabi :D

Do you seriously think, jinxed_girl's points make some sense?? ;)

The Punjabi spoken in Pakistan is quite diverse itself.

If you look more deeply. My dear even its diverse from home to home as it depends too from where they migrated or to which caste they belong. Like people from One Family i means cousins etc will have a same accent even they are living at different places as compare to people living near by each other i mean neighbours belongs to different families or castes.
