That may be an older photo. I do not see a whole lot of Rickshaws in the main thoroughfares like Airport Road etc. nowadays.

Rickshaws are only present in the secondary roads and with newer commute options, they will go away fast.

The reason they are still hanging around is that we don't have footpaths (sidewalks) along all roads, and we Bengalis are generally too lazy to walk.

the footpaths on most average roads are taken over by hawkers... that might also contribute to people not walking....but yes, i noticed this... you won't be able to find rickshaw's in air port road... american embassy area etc
