The buses will travel a distance of 1,104 km.
A bus service on a Bangladesh-India-Nepal route on a trial basis reached Banglabandha Immigration check-post on Tuesday.

After completing immigration formalities, two buses with 43 passengers entered Indian route to Kathmandu.

Bangladeshis will soon be able to travel to Nepal by road if the trial run of the proposed bus service proves successful with passengers eager to avoid the stress and expense of flying.

A protocol for the new bus service will be signed by the four countries, India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.

When fully implemented, the Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) motor vehicles agreement will open a new horizon for travellers in member countries.

Initially the bus service will operate between Bangladesh, India, and Nepal, excluding Bhutan.

The buses are expected to reach Kathmandu on April 26 after an overnight stay in Siliguri Sazzadur Rahman Sazzad/Dhaka Tribune

The Shyamoli buses started their journey from Dhaka on Monday and reached Rangpur the same night.

The buses are expected to reach Kathmandu on April 26 after an overnight stay in Siliguri, India.

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Chairman Fariduddin said: “If the four state bus services run regularly, it will improve the economy and have a positive effect on tourism.”

“This trial run will identify problems that passengers may face, including visa procedures and customs,” he said.

The buses will travel a distance of 1,104Km.

Upon reaching the Banglabandha immigration check-post, the passengers were welcomed by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panchagarh, Zahirul Islam, Superintendent of Police, Md Giasuddin Ahmed, and other important government officials.

Transport ministers of the four countries signed the agreement on behalf of their sides in Thimphu, Bhutan, on June 15, 2015. However, Bhutan’s parliament is yet to ratify the cross-border transportation agreement (BBIN-MVA).

Why not fly to Katman instead of being on a bus for 1,104 km journey?

. . .
Probably its cheaper. Flights cost around 150 Canadian $ or 8000Rs from Dhaka to Kathmandu. I guess bus saves some money.

If there is sufficient demand the price will do down. Right now in India it is actually cheaper to get a flight between popular destinations like Delhi-Bombay, Delhi to Calcutta, or Delhi-Katmandu than it is to get a bus ticket or an AC-rail ticket.

@Śakra not trolling from get go, what sorcery is this? :P
Sakra has finally seen the light. U on the other hand r a mean guy who always makes negative comments about Bangladesh. :p:

It's time for u to follow the same path. Change ur antics and be optimistic about Bangladesh. :toast_sign:

Good step.

I am actually surprised by the distance of only 1100 kms, I mean just Karachi to Lahore is 1200 kms. And here we are talking about 3 countries. lol

Anyway, it's all good if the bus fare is 1/3rd of the air ticket as it worth the 10+ hours journey. How much is the fare?

.
Distance could have been around 200 km less than this 1104 km. See the absurd road map within Nepal. Their eastern main highway at first go to western side bypassing the Kathmandu then turn east to reach that city. Why Nepali govt. is not acting to correct this malformation?

No price yet, it's still on trial. A travel site claims that a car ride from Dhaka to Kathmadu will cost around 5000 rupees.

I like to be strict and harsh....you may hate your drill instructor when you are in boot camp....but you always remember him well in hindsight...well somewhat :P

You have enough rasagulla among yourselves, so I add the exercise....you may thank me for it later. :D

over night journey yes that makes sense but 1000km will take at-least a day. For tourists it wont matter but for business ppl not much I guess. I think travel by rail will solve the problem to great extent.
