Details of aerial fly past on Republic day

Very nice! The Army's Akash TEL are far superior to the IAF's trailer mounted launchers.

@sancho

You haven't even seen the real thing yet! This is just a sneak peak. Personally seeing all the above sensor and technical support systems is better than watching the Paras do a jog/march. I am looking forward to the joint SF (PARA (SF), MARCOs, Garuds and NSG) float they seem to have every year though.

Ref: the underlined part. There is a difference between the IA and IAF wheeled launchers for the Akash Missile systems. The reason for that is that the IA launcher has to be cross-country capable and capable of sustained and speedy re-deployments. In contrast, the IAF launcher on the articulated trailer will not be required to be frequently re-deployed in operations. Also notice that the IAF launcher is in fact a "Skid-mounted" version that can be lifted off the trailer and then parked on out-rigger legs while the trailer is then available to transport more launcher units. The Mobility needs of the respective launchers are very different.

@Abingdonboy check out the Tata Safari Storme
Very nice! I was wondering when the President's motorcade would replace those old Safaris! Now the PM's motorcade needs to do the same (with the jammer).

I don't see an option to do that, where is it?
At the top of this thread where it say "thread tools"

Or request @waz to do it for you, i'm sure he would oblige.

Para special forces taking part in this yr parade but arjun tanks doubtfull.
AFAIK the T-90Ss and Arjuns appearance alternates every year, last year we saw the Arjun (MK.2 no less), this year is the turn of the T-90.

My guess is that Modie would be in the center sedan.

And so would Obama.

So would there be Secret Service in those Tata Safaris or any other Secret Service vehicle beside them or would it only be Indian security?

I don't think this single engined rule is true.

Mirage 2000 is a much safer plane to fly than Mig29 or Jaguar.

Modie .. ? Who's Modie

For the record, the image is that of the Presidents cavalcade . The PM ( Mody) does not have such trappings. Those on horseback are the PBG.

Narendra Modi will not be in that cavalcade. What is visible in the picture is the cavalcade of the President of India escorted by the mounted column of the Presidents Body Guard. The President is the reviewing dignitary in his postion as the President of the Republic of India as wll as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of India. The President is accompanied by the Chief Guest; who this year happens to be Barack Obama. Depending on the weather and also the security threat-perception; the President either rides his Mercedes S600 Pullman State Limousine or the Presidential horse-drawn buggy. This year its likely to be the armored Mercedes Limo.

Prime Minister Modi arrives at the Saluting dais earlier in his own motorcade, then followed by the Vice President of India who then receive the President on arrival. That is the protocol which is strictly followed.

I was assuming that Tejas would be given a chance as you nation has spent huge sum and time in developing that bird and it is ready.

They fear it might fall off the sky so Yankees are not willing to let it fly over Obama...:P
