The launch was supposed to happen in the second week of January but was postponed in view of the sensitivities surrounding Obama's visit.

Actually I'm not so sure about that. Initially people said it could be tested in December, but was postponed to Jan 2 (some sources said Modi wanted to be present). Then they said it was due to the Obama visit. IMO it was made to coincide with the foreign ministers visit to China

I agree on this one. I have been there myself and can attest to this. Had there been no China, then India will surely have missed it a lot. Lool.
However, we shouldn't see this as India specific, countries who have a bigger/more powerful neighbour then them, usually tend to over focus on such a country, especially when its a country they lost/fought a war with. This is the case with Vietnam towards China,Bangladesh /Pakistan towards India, Malaysia and Singapore, Eritrea towards Ethiopia, Poland towards Russia, and even China (after world war II) towards Japan. Etc. So it isn't India specific.

Well its because news like this sells. Some of the newspapers try to create a perception or hype much like what we get to see in reality shows. If you see official press releases by government, they usually play down such events.

DRDO has nothing to do with Obama..

China does not have the same capability, but by far having the superior capability.

China can target the entire world since 1981, while India hasn't developed this capability yet.

Its more about political will than capability.We had the ability to launch 3.5 tonne to LEO as back as 1993

"China-killer" huh...

Looks like we're dealing with a country with genocidal intent towards us. I hope our leaders can recognize this reality and prepare accordingly.
