Talking about the next version of the Tejas, called ‘Mark1-A’, Dr Christopher said: “The design other than the AESA radar and the jammer pod is complete.” Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is looking to import the AESA radar even as DRDO made a radar that will be tested next month.

The IAF is looking at 83 ‘Mark1-A’, with 59 improvements over the existing Tejas.

The Indian Air Force has projected a need for 324 fighter jets over 15 years and has officially indicated that it needs the ‘Tejas Mark 2’ (medium combat aircraft). It will carry a more powerful engine and weigh almost 20 per cent heavier than Tejas.

And talk when your Mark-1A ready @trident2010 :p: before that we will have block-3 with IRST, AESA, new Engine, more composite materials, new AAMs like PL-15 with a range of 200 Km @trident2010 :enjoy:

This is the reason why AMCA will not exist. Because India will need to pour its total resource into another iteration of LCA. AMCA will be neglected as LCA is delayed and suck up the resources.

By the time India is serious about AMCA, it's design will be obsolete.

Not one, we're putting resources into Mk1A and Mk2.
And yet, AMCA TD is underway. The reason delays will be within global standards is the participation of private players.

Well if we choose Narendra Modi in 2019 most of the world will be shocked to see the growth of our manufacturing sector and leap in defense manufacturing...

I know several IITians who are working on several high end technologies in their small workshops... They are working really hard with very limited resourses... They just need a bit of govt. support to realise their dreams...

Apart from that several private sector players are also interested in the projects developed in IITs... the change can be felt in the air...

Fruit of PM Vajpayee's work on economy were enjoyed by UPA 1 and how corrupt and ineffective UPA 2 was is not a secret in India...

There was no need for this.
Indian economy is in a state of moving forward regardless of whoever is in power. Only drastic measures will reflect in a dip, which we saw last year with no real future gains.

Regarding defence, the only way to kill domestic projects is by buying or issuing tender for foreign products, like the SEF tender which would've been the end of our Tejas iterations beyond Mk1A.

Otherwise projects will keep rolling forward.

And they'll accelerate like Tejas, similar to any other global project.
