Denial of leave to troops may tempt them to have extramarital affairs: Army

Funny you put it like that. You just read the words 'affair' and 'Army' and came out with this wonderful post of yours. Its talking about the problems that women face at work and possible solutions which can help create a environment which is safe for women. Women have been subject to violence in may armies not just Indian.

I am sure it appears that way to you because otherwise you would have seen that i said it wasn't just meant at the Indian army i meant all armies in general but again as long as a Pakistani comments on a post related to India its considered anti indian even if it isn't meant to be. So for your satisfaction i'd clear it up that your great army isn't the only one i was talking about and neither i had a problem in the way they addressed the issue.

. . .
I ve often heard that IA jawans dont get much leave.... needless to say this can result in psychological stress under harsh circumstances.

And relationships also tend to suffer, the longer the distance and the time between the partners.
Firstly, a Jawan is entitled to 60 days annual leave and 30 days casual leave excluding journey time. He can split his leave twice.

So what's the problem? The reason is basically in the inability to sanction casual leave to the full due to exigencies of service. For example, in high altitude areas, a Jawan has to acclimatize at base camp at 10,000 ft for a week before he gets back to join duty at his post. That means if he splits his casual leave, there would be a loss of 30+14 days = 44 days.

Super high altitude is worse where the acclimatization period is 10-14 days at base camp depending on the altitude. (Bana Post at Siachen is 21,000 ft!)

This is a problem that seems to be insurmountable at present.
