I have used
Toshiba = Bought used for 15K, served me well for 2 years (opened it up, screwed things up, threw away)
Compaque = mother board died one month after warranty period completed (3 years)
Toshiba = Slammed it hard on my bed twice while running and it kept going, used for about 3.5 years without issues
Sony Vaio - used for 5/6 month only no issues
Acer = Acer bought 8 years ago, still working (not even kids use it now saying its too slow (windows Vista)
Toshiba = Stepped over it, broke screen - threw away
Toshiba = Spilled tea not working
Toshiba = bought 7 years ago, dropped it, broke screen (still working with a small black spot on screen)
Lenovo = used 18 months, No issues
Lenovo = used 1 year, No issues
Acer = bought 4 years ago, still working
Lenovo = used 14 months, voltage surge, mother board fried
Lenovo = 2 years old, No issues
Toshiba = just bought it (touch scree, works great)
I am a very heavy computer user, I am on computer about 16 hours a day, 8/9 in office, remaining at home. All my kids have their own, use them 4/5 hours a day and are very rough.
I found Acers to be quite good too except I had the same problem with both my Acers, their power jack wires (internal soldering ) gets loose, probably because I have them on for almost 8/10 hours constantly on daily basis, an dI normally fix them myself at home. But Toshiba has always been my favourite, very robust.

There are many configurations (processor, Ram and HD) within each model, make sure to get one which meets your usage requirement. Normally Business use machines are more robust and pack high performance combinations. you can use a guide like below to choose (almost all suppliers have similar guides to help you choose the right one)
