A fast-track court is likely to pronounce its verdict today in the Delhi gang-rape case, in which four adult accused were tried for the brutal rape and murder of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus on December 16 last year.

If the four accused - Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Mukesh Singh - are found guilty of rape and murder, they may be given the death sentence. The four have denied all charges.

Ram Singh, the prime accused and driver of the bus on which the assault happened, was found dead in his cell in Tihar jail on March 11, almost a month after the trial started. The charges against him were dropped after his death.

The verdict comes ten days after a minor accused was found guilty by the Juvenile Justice Board and sentenced to three years at a detention centre, the maximum sentence under the law.

The victim's parents, dissatisfied with the sentence given to the juvenile, say nothing less than death to the four accused can do justice to their deceased daughter.

The police says the student's friend was assaulted with an iron rod and thrown to the back of the bus before the men took turns to rape the physiotherapy intern. The couple was then thrown naked and bleeding onto the road, and the gang tried to run them over, but the girl's friend pushed her out of the way, the police claimed.

The verdict in the incident, which had evoked nationwide outrage and consequent amendment to the anti-rape laws, follows a trial which concluded after over a hundred hearings.

The four are also accused of robbery and the trial in this case is going on in another Delhi court.

If given death sentence,I want them to be executed soon, not after some 10 or 20 years, when our human rights guys and media are gonna cry for saving their necks.

The thought process that they are going to be hanged and there is no future will keep on haunting them for the 10 years before they are hanged. Inspite of all the biriyani what they eat in the jail, it will haunt them bigtime every day, every minute and every second. It may not be applicable for the brain washed hardcore jihadis like Kasab but these are guys who did the crime just to enjoy their life and now will be paying for that for the next 10 or so years.

They deserve nothing better than death... But slow painful death is what these rapist bastards deserve

Also--- was the bus driver driving while sleeping? why didnt he stop them?
yet another thing that is wrong in india

Bro,like majority, you are also misinformed about the incident. It wasn't a regular bus,but private contract carrier, which wasn't doing any trip at the moment. The only guys in the bus was the staff, and it was them who did the crime, including the driver.

If there was no trip, what in the world were the couple doing on it?
Your story makes no sense

Yeah right, you are stranded in a road and look for any public transport,When you see a bus approach saying were going there so and so, you take it,Pity that guy and gal didn't have weapons RIP. All of them culprits should be hanged.

What about that juvenile guy is he going to get death cos he committed the most heinous crime of all.

The couple were on a late night hangout, when the culprits, who knew each other were drinking and partying inside the bus. They offered the couple a lift and then committed the crime. Bus like the one's involved couldn't make trips due to the tainted windows.

--And thats why you never sit on a empty bus with tainted windows at night...

I want an India,in which a girl won't be raped even if she was walking naked. By god's grace,we'll achieve it someday.

Lets wait and see what the court rules.

Delhi gang-rape case: All five accused convicted for rape, murder

NEW DELHI: Less than nine months after the December 16 brutal gang rape incident, a fast track Delhi court on Tuesday held all the five accused, including a man who died during the trial, guilty of rape and cold-blooded murder of a "defenceless" 23-year-old girl that can fetch them death.

The quantum of sentence to convicts — Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Akshay Thakur — in the case that shook the nation's conscience will be argued on Wednesday before additional sessions judge Yogesh Khanna, who delivered 237-page judgement.

"The facts of the case make all accused liable for the cold-blooded murder of the defenceless prosecutrix and thus the offence under Section 302 (murder) read with Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC stands proved and the accused persons are thus convicted," the judge said.

"... all the accused in pursuance of the conspiracy committed gang rape with the prosecutrix and thus are convicted under section 376(2)(g) (gangrape) of the IPC with the aide of section 120B IPC," the court said.

Rejecting the defence argument that the girl had died due to delayed medical aid and infection caught in the hospital during treatment, judge Khanna observed that "the important aspect of this trial is the manner in which both rods and hands were used for damaging the alimentary canal and pulling it out from the body (of the girl).

"This act of complete destruction of the most vital parts of the body can never be termed as intending to cause bodily injuries and rather it will be act done with intention of causing death."

The judge said they had conspired to gang rape her and the crime had been committed in a "premeditated manner".

"The accused are also liable for gang rape committed with the prosecutrix in pursuance to their conspiracy," the court said.

The defence counsel asked, "Is it possible that an elder brother is asking to accompany his younger one to rape a girl?"

Anand said that the court should not rely on the statement of the victim's friend, also the complainant in the case, alleging he has changed his stand on several occasions.

"The boy is untrustworthy. How can his statement be relied upon?" the counsel argued, adding that Mukesh was not aware of the incident happening in the back side of the bus as he was behind the wheels and the lights inside the bus had been turned off when the crime was being committed by others.

The victim's friend, a software engineer, had got a fracture during the scuffle in the bus.

During the course of the trial, Ram Singh was found dead in Tihar Jail here on March 11 and court proceedings against him stand abated.

The trial proceedings came to an end, two days after the juvenile offender in the case was sentenced to a three-year probation term after being held guilty by the juvenile justice board of gang rape and murder of the paramedic.

After the accused concluded their submissions, special public prosecutor Dayan Krishnan rebutted the claim of the defence counsel that the victim's dying declaration, the statement of her male friend, the DNA samples and other medical evidence had been fabricated by the probe agency.

Krishnan said the police had placed sufficient material before the court to prove the guilt of each and every accused.

The prosecution had examined 85 witnesses to prove its case against the four adult accused. The accused had brought 17 defence witnesses.

Meanwhile, A P Singh, Vivek Sharma and Sadashiv Gupta, counsel for Vinay, Akshay and Pawan, have moved an application requesting the judge to see the bus in which the incident took place.

The counsel have also asked the judge to visit Ravi Das camp in south Delhi, where the accused resided. The court will decide their plea on Wednesday.

I am amazed by the hypocracy of the PDF members. When the case happened everyday many threads were being opened and everyone was commenting that India is Rape capital. now when the verdict has come no one is commenting.

Where are all the posters?

Now that the mugshots of these little darlings are made public. They do make very nice son-in-laws, don't you think?
