Defence Ministry to buy bulletproof jackets from two companies

The Defence ministry has decided that Tata Advanced Materials and MKU, the two Indian contenders shortlisted for supplying 50,000 bulletproof jackets, will supply 25,000 such jackets each. The decision is aimed at faster procurement of these jackets for jawans. The decision to choose Indian contenders to manufacture these jackets is being seen as a great push to the government’s Make In India initiative.

While the final contract is yet to be signed, ministry sources are hopeful that it will be signed “soon”. “The price bids for the project were opened two weeks ago. It has been decided that orders of 25,000 jackets each will be placed with Tatas and MKU. The contracts shall be finalised soon,” said an MoD official.

It will be very interesting to see the timeline....i want to see how quickly they can deliver:rolleyes:

Both companies are reputed in manufacturing BPV / BPJs of high quality. It would certainly be a big boost to both Tata and MKU

On the sidelines, I see the current government really getting serious in getting 'serious' stuff for our boys instead of the hungry dalaals of past govt.

Such items are high essential equipment along with other gears like cold weather jackets.. It's Paramount we make them in India by a local company and get these orders done quickly. This is an are which had not seen good response timeline by the industry n MOD. Now things are changing which is a very encouraging sign..

a very good development..

at last its being started as a good development 8-)

Actually, I am in favor of banning all low tech item imports. We developed very well in missile technology since the import was not possible in many areas due to various reasons. We mastered missile technology and send missions to mars but we face issues with rifles. The reason being the availability of better stuff in international market. I am very happy the way new government has given a thrust on Make in India. The way they cancelled the LUH import tender and the way they insisted Russia to make those light choppers in India. Artillery are now planned to be made in India. Submarines shall also be made in India. bloody hell of good things are happening in India.India is going to be a next factory of the world. We are all set to make high tech stuff here in india.

This should be a prelude to the bursting of the dams and both/either of these companies secure MASSIVE orders from the Indian Military, CAPFs, police units etc- the demand for the next decade alone will be for MILLIONS of these units. 50,000 is but a drop in the ocean.

+ Both TATA and MKU are world class producers of protective equipment, what they can offer to the Indian Military/police is VAST.

Great start. All our best wishes for these two. Make us proud. Don't forget. The reputation you have to deliver will affect all other new private players in future. Best push ever. Low tech support systems and equipments for our armed forces should be made with in our country. It's laughable that still we don't have
