What's new

Defeat of Sikh army and death of Hari Singh Nalwa in battle of Jamrud

The villain I mean real villain is the concept of dharma as practiced by majority Hindus.

Brahmins are just one small section. Other "high castes" are equally if not more responsible.

So please do not take these comments as attacks on Brahmins. It is not.

I am talking about historic subjugation of indigenous people and done over millennia if not much longer.

You have given a whole new meaning to the word Dhrama fauji bhai. I find your condescension towards high castes in general and Brahmins in particular very interesting.

Again who is indigenous and who is not debatable and subjugation of any group has got nothing to do with it. The first ruler who unified most of India under a single rule was a shudra, Chandragupta Maurya ,helped by a brahmin Chanakya.

Agreed that occasionally slaves tend to overthrow their masters and take over the rule.

Heck there is a slave dynastic rule.
Mamluk Dynasty (Delhi) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

However it would be a stretch to say that CGM was shudra. many say he belonged to kashatriya (military ruling elite). There is no direct history from his court.

So we have to rely on sideways sources like Greeks etc. And hence the uncertainty.

There's difference between a low caste and slave. Caste was defined by on'e profession. A fisherman, shoe-maker or sheep herder are not slave but were considered low caste.

Chandragupta is referred as Kula-hina i.e low caste or shudra. He was not a slave to begin with and was groomed by a brahmin to be the king .

BTW Too much digression from the topic of the thread.

Sorry to see you are trying to split hair.

I gave slave dynasty example as reference and not direct comparison. That's not possible. different times different places.

Caste system is terrible.

For highest caste Brahmins, every other caste is low.

do not confuse between lower caste and the lowest caste.

There is a HUGE diff.

Thank you

Caste system is terrible , i agree.

Even non-Brahmins don't marry Brahmins (orthodox on both sides), one of my friend is a brahmin and his girlfriend is Baniya, the family of the girl is against the marriage due to his caste while the boy's family has no problem. This is not an isolated case but to point out that Brahmins are not the only ones who prefer endogamy .

Brahmins thinking themsleves to be highest among all has nothing to do with others castes, eveyone has got exaggerated feelings for one's caste or community, nowadays even Dalits display that .

You are needlessly making a villain out of brahmins and declaring them as the sole reason for all social ills in India when that is not the true picture.
