Representational purpose
In what will be the world's largest solar plant, a 5,000-megawatt solar power plant will be set up at Dholera in Ahmedabad district. The state government on Tuesday gave its in-principle clearance for the generation unit.
The solar park will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 25,000 crore and will be spread across 11,000 hectares in a special investment region, said a release from the chief minister's office. The greenfield project is expected to generate more than 20,000 jobs.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set the target of generation of 175 gigawatts through non-conventional sources by 2022 in India. The mega solar park of Gujarat will be contributing its bit to this goal," said the release.
The mega solar park will also open avenues for manufacturing units in form of supply chains in the areas nearby Dholera special investment region, the government said.
The Gujarat government has signed agreements of partnership with Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor for the development of a giant township at Dholera SIR. Indian Green Building Council has given platinum rating to Dholera Industrial City. Besides the solar power park, the approval was given for the development of wind park, and an international airport.
As compared to the existing capacity of 1,612 MW, the government plans to add 2,000 MW of solar power capacity every year for the next five years, state's energy secretary Sujit Gulati had told DNA recently.
