Dar announces 35-rupee hike in petrol price

Those who can afford the new prices will go on using it. Those who cannot afford them will have to find alternatives, or learn to do without. That is as simple as it gets, on both the domestic, and international, levels.
That is a good argument for petrol but not for food or medicines. If many people can't afford petrol for private transport, that is a good thing as it reduces the pressure on foreign exchange. Time to dust up bicycles or good pair of walking shoes or even horse carts in rural areas.

Sukkur: Mentally challenged child tortured by influential people for stealing potatoes

Web Desk January 29, 2023
potato

Influential people set up their own court in Sukkur! A mentally challenged child was brutally tortured for allegedly stealing potatoes.
The incident took place in Salihpat where a disabled child named Tahir was tortured by Shabbir Mangrew, a local vader's servant, for allegedly stealing potatoes from the shop.

The child was beaten and skinned and later tied to a tree. Even at the child's painful screams, the hearts of the oppressors did not melt, the influential people kept beating him and laughing.

ARY News obtained footage of the tragic incident while the police have not taken any action so far.

Resonates with the story of Jean Valjean in Les Misérables who gets arrested for stealing a loaf of bread when hungry. Sadly, these stories will become more common.

yeah 150 was high, 250 is alright
Keeping at 150 by Imran which was around 50 INR was bleeding Pakistan economically. Why sell cheapest oil in world when you are financially poor. People can easily cut down use of petrol and help the country. There is lot of unnecessary travel everyone does.

IDK what does establishment want.

Life gets really messy when you 'don't want' becomes 'can't have'.

They don't want IK and think the US will bail them out. With every second, they are losing and can't revive the economy.

the US will not invest in a loss, and their business nature can make them pull away anytime.

Food imports are a tiny fraction compared to Pakistan's energy imports. Besides, Pakistan can improve domestic production of food and medicine if it so chooses by adopting correct policies. Even then, I would imagine that my argument still holds true since providing food to local markets at subsidized prices below the costs of imported inputs to the system cannot be sustained indefinitely without and adequate economic backbone.

Where is the picture of Gen Zia riding a bicycle to work to exhort the nation to do the same. One of my favorites. How prescient. :D

Unfortunately, there is going to be more pain than long bicycle rides.

Well, the longer Pakistan chooses to delay what it needs to do, the more painful it will be. Already, it is overdue by at least a few decades. Obviously, the pain threshold has not been reached yet. Some more delay and it will be reached, inevitably. Only Pakistanis can decide that. It is their own choice.
