Czech Media : Pakistan shows interest in buying L-159

According to Czech Media Pakistan has shown interest in buy Trainer and Light Attack Air Craft L-39 for its Air Force needs.

Aero Vodochody is slowly starting to design new orders. Far from being negotiated for the sale of new L-39CW and L-159s to Thailand and Pakistan.


As the tender with Islamabad and Bangkok is developing very promisingly, the Euro has verified last week during talks at the Dubai Airshow . Such information was confirmed by several sources from the Prague Ministry of Defense. "While Thailand has long experience with the use of training L-39, Pakistan needs sub-sonic battles, and the L-159 solution seems ideal," the Eura high-ranking official told the ministry.














The Thai Air Force operates a fleet of 40 L-39ZA / ART Albatros. Although several years ago announced that the training squadron will rejuvenate the future - already signed the purchase of 12 South Korean aircraft T-50TH for a total of $ 258 million - the albatross does not want to give up altogether.Více na:

What advantage might this aircraft have over K-8?

I see no reason to opt for something like this. If anything, K-8 should be upgraded to enable it to undertake light ground attack missions.
I talked to one Air Force guy they say K-8 is not ideal for Lift Training and that is they use old F-7 to give that training this is ideal for LIFT training but funny part is I have no clue what LIFT training means

Lead-In Fighter Training? JF-17B could easily do that. Why opt for something like this? It would consume a lot of resources and have all the associated headaches of an aircraft program - money, training, logistics. We shall then be operating three or four jet trainers. I just do not see that happening anytime soon.

The answer is in the the title of the platform. There are 4 types of trainer aircraft required for the training of fighter pilots . Basic trainer, medium trainer, intermediate jet trainer then LIFT which leads upto OCU. Basic....Mushak, Medium.... Probably Hurkus, Intermediate....K-8, LIFT....L-159, OCU....JF-17B. LIFT basically gives you a operational fighter jet performance but in a controlled environment and Sub sonic speed. Flying & fighter flying are two different things and Jf-17b is basically a Supersonic fighter jet very good for OCU but not FCU. The flight envelope of LIFT platforms allow you to make beginners mistakes and won't get out of control while this cannot be said for a dual seat variant of a fighter platform. The latter can be very unforgiving with very tiny room for error.

It was suggested by over 20 Hawk instructor pilots who flew the aircraft in the Middle East, Zimbabwe and the UK (all PAF fighter pilots).....no interest by AHQ.

Doesn't make sense. You can built a JFT variant for $10 million with sub-sonic engine heavier than your K-8. Integrate various weapons on it and don't use JFT block II avionics. You'd have a very cost effective LIFT platform that you can build for cheaper, maintain it for much cheaper and no one can deny you any spares. When you already have an internal platform in terms of the JFT, why not modify it for certain roles and create variants? makes no sense.

K-8 is pretty good but nice to have multiple platform

Likely PAF going for 4 tear training model
Super Mushak -> K8 -> L-159 -> JF17 and/OR F16
