Currently 28,023 Pakistanis studying in China and 14,174 in Australia

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has told the National Assembly that currently 28,023 Pakistani students are studying in China and 14,174 in Australia.

In a written reply to a question by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) lawmaker Nusrat Wahid, Qureshi told that the data of number of Pakistani students in China and Australia has been shared as per reports from respective Education Ministries of both the Countries.

Sharing the data of five major Countries having maximum Pakistani immigrants especially students, the foreign minister apprised the House that approximately 1.99 million Overseas Pakistanis are residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and wherein estimatedly 25,707 Pakistani students including school going children are studying.

Likewise, 1.6 million Pakistanis including 40,000 students are in United Arab Emirates (UAE), 1.175 million Pakistanis including 25,000 to 30,000 students are in United Kingdom, 1.0 million Pakistanis including 6,000 students are in the United States, and 0.35 million Pakistanis including 3,700 students are in Canada.

In respond to another question by PTI’s Mehboob Shah, the foreign minister told the House that there is no hospital of government of Pakistan for Overseas Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia and UAE.

Damn.. I always thought Pakistani students are more in West than in China. Looks like the trend is reversing..

I see it as a good thing.. The next superpower is going to be China so it is good to go over there and acquire education.

I don't think they are including British Pakistani kids/students only ones with Pakistani passports.

These students would become Pakistani assets in future. Most of them would start jobs there, not only sending massive remittances back but also people coming back would be highly trained and experts.

This is a very positive development. But i wish to see more people in US, Canada and Australia.

I may also add that these students have all gone through personal struggle, no support from government at any level or in any form.

Now we have to make sure these kids come back to Pakistan and become part of our “workforce”.

We need a reverse brain drain.
