Indian Mujahideen boss Tehseen, arrested today, had set up arms factory in Delhi: police

New Delhi: The arrest of a 23-year-old expert bomb-maker named Tehseen Akhtar has allegedly left the terror group Indian Mujahideen without a head in India.

Hunted by the police for months, Tehseen was arrested early this morning from a village called Panitanki, near the border with Nepal.

The Delhi police called Tehseen a big catch, who had not just planned several terror attacks including the blasts targeting Narendra Modi's rally in Patna in October, but also helped set up an arms factory in the capital.

Tehseen had allegedly been running the Indian Mujahideen in India since the group's co-founder Yasin Bhatkal was arrested last year, also near the India-Nepal border.

The police say the Indian Mujahideen was planning a big terror attack, possibly to coincide with the general election next month, but the arrest of its top leaders means the end of the group's operational wing in India.

There was a reward of Rs. 10 lakh on Tehseen, the son of a chemist from Samastipur in Bihar. He had given investigators the slip several times, which was blamed on leaks after Bhatkal's arrest by the National Investigation Agency. This, sources say, was perhaps why the anti-terror agency was reportedly kept out of the operation to arrest Tehseen.

Senior NIA officer Rama Shastry, however, told NDTV, "The NIA was not kept out of the loop for any supposed leak. Sometimes we get to make an arrest, sometimes other agencies do. This arrest strengthens our cases."

Tehseen is suspected to have a played a role in the 2010 bombing in Varanasi, a cooker bomb blast outside the Jama Masjid in Delhi last year, the 2011 serial blasts in Mumbai, the 2012 low intensity blasts in Pune and the twin bombings in Hyderabad last year. Almost 45 people were killed in these attacks and over 200 were injured.

The tech savvy operative who frequented cyber cafes, had allegedly been tasked with recruiting young men for terror in Bihar.

Three top Indian Mujahideen operatives - the Bhatkal brothers, Riyaz and Iqbal - and Amir Reza Khan are said to be in Pakistan. The Indian Mujahideen was allegedly founded by Riyaz, Iqbal and Yasin, all of whom belong to the Bhatkal town in Karnataka.

Dogvijay Singh: Tehsin Akthar Ji is being framed , my support goes out to his family.

Tehsin, whose first major operation was the Patna blasts, reportedly enjoyed close links with a leader of the Janata Dal – United in Bihar. This connection also helped him set up a terror module in the state.

I wonder why nobody goes after the corrupt politican? Why the protection of their identity? This bit of news should hit the front page of every newspaper in every state.

UP ATS arrests two terrorists planning to attack Varanasi during polls

New Delhi: In what can be a major breakthrough, two alleged fidayeen terrorists have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad in Gorakhpur. They were reportedly on their way to Ayodhya from Gorakhpur.

According to the UP ATS, the arrested terrorists are Pakistani nationals. The ATS said that the two have admitted that they were planning to target the temple town of Varanasi during the elections where Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and Bharatiya Janata Party Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will be contesting from.

The two are likely to be produced in court later in the day.

These arrests come just days after the Delhi Police arrested four suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists from Rajasthan, who were also planning a terror strike ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Indian Mujahideen India head Tehseen Akhtar was also arrested on Tuesday from the Naxalbari area in Darjeeling. He is the alleged mastermind behind several terror attacks in India, including the recent Patna and Bodhgaya blasts in Bihar.
