India’s first and successful interplanetary expedition Mangalyaan has caught the attention of the American space agency NASA, which will soon join the ISRO team to study more about its findings on Mars.
“The resilience power of the propulsion system has enabled Mangalyaan to stay in the orbit around Mars for this long,” said Dr K Sivan, director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre.
The senior aerospace engineer was speaking exclusively to Manorama News on the birth anniversary of Vikram Sarabhai (August 12), who is regarded as the ‘father of India’s space programme’.
Mangalyaan or the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) began its expedition in November 2013. With this expedition, India joins US, Russia and Europe in the elite club of space research.
