A 52-day curfew in Kashmir that has witnessed violent protests since the killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani last month, was lifted today except in Pulwama district and some parts of Srinagar.

Restrictions under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code or CrPC will however remain enforced which prohibits unlawful assembly of 10 or more people.

Around 70 people have died and over 11,000 have been injured in violent clashes between protesters and security forces.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, spoke of the Kashmir unrest in his radio addressMann Ki Baat and said "ekta" (unity) and "mamata" (compassion) could be the "twin mantras" to bring peace in the Valley.

The Prime Minister's message to trouble-makers in the state -- on a platform for positive messages -- comes a day after Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stepped up the offensive on Kashmir, nominating 22 parliamentarians as special envoys to world capitals to highlight the issue. India has rebuked Pakistan on its offer for talks on Kashmir, saying it was open to discussing cross-border infiltration and terrorism - which was much more "relevant".

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who also met the Prime Minister in Delhi on Saturday directly addressed the protesters and said, "I may have got angry with you and you may be angry with me, but give me a chance".

Ms Mufti discussed a 'three-point plan' with PM Modi, which according to sources, included a Track 2 dialogue through eminent interlocutors from outside of government, and talks with separatists.

"Everyone wants the bloodshed to stop. But dialogue can only happen with those who want it. I appeal to the Hurriyat to help in getting peace back on the streets, to stop the killings," Ms Mufti had said.

State opposition parties, who had also met PM Modi in Delhi last week, have pushed for a dialogue with "all stakeholders" including separatists for a long lasting solution to the Kashmir issue.

The only people suffering are the poor segment of the population, who is only concerned of having food in their plates at the end of the day.

GOI must send more troops to Kashmir. It is Pakistan and ISIS followers who are creating trouble in the kashmir valley. India must wage war against pakistan and china to retrieve the lost land.:pop:

The decision to lift curfew was taken at a high level security meeting on Sunday evening, sources said.
Authorities on Monday lifted curfew from Kashmir after 51 days since the ongoing unrest began on July 9, officials said.

“Curfew has been lifted from the entire Valley. But, it will remain in force in Pulwama town and in areas under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta and M.R. Gunj police stations in Srinagar,” a senior police official told IANS.

The decision to lift curfew was taken at a high level security meeting on Sunday evening, sources said.

An all party delegation comprising senior leaders of political parties is slated to visit Kashmir on September 3.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to accompany the delegation.

Meanwhile, separatists here continued their protest shutdown despite lifting of the curfew.

In a statement issued last week, the separatists have asked people to continue the shutdown until September 1.

All senior separatist leaders have been placed under detention in Srinagar city.

A total of 71 people — 68 civilians and three policemen — have been killed in this present bout of violence that started on July 9, a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in a gunfight.

Over 11,000 others including civilians and security personnel were injured during this period.

I hope the govt refrains from appeasement this time. Don't pump in more free money into the pockets of the Kashmiris. Let them feel the pinch of the curfew. I read somewhere that the traders lost over a billion USD due to the violence. That should be a lesson for them. The nation showed no sympathies to the Jats or Gujjars during their mindless agitation, no reason why this should be different.

Same apprehension have been expressed by a lot of people in personal talks and on other forums, even by those who are center left but are not full blown commies.

Anti-Indian propagandists are using terms like soldiers and armed personals to obfuscate a very important point while trying to garner sympathy for terrorists: There is no army deployed on streets of Kashmir. It is wholesomely Police ,either central or Kashmiri, which are policing Kashmir.

This is a propaganda to paint a much graver picture of Kashmir than it really is, and also an attempt to equate it to places like Syria.

This was started by the BBC and British press and Indian press has blindly followed their former masters.

What I would not give to see a decolonised Indian mind.

BBC has an incorrigible love for Islamic terrorists. This is true for whole of left spectrum. Probably they see too many similarities between themselves and have grudging admiration for each other.

Here is one non-India related example of that.

Spin: London school girl feared dead in Syria.

Truth: IS sympathizer/s-e-x Jihadi dead in Syria.
