CSIC, Egyptian Navy agree to deepen ties

The China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) and the Egyptian Navy have agreed to step up co-operation of potential defence trade and industrial and technological collaboration, CSIC said on 29 April.

Following meetings between the senior leadership of the two sides in Beijing, a CSIC statement said the two sides will look to "strengthen co-operation in the field of naval equipment", adding "CSIC is willing to share the latest technological achievements with the Egyptian Navy and carry out high-level equipment and technical co-operation to contribute to the [development] of the Egyptian Navy."

CSIC said its relationship with the Egyptian Navy is framed by Beijing's One Belt, One Road initiative, which is championed by President Xi Jinping and aims to strengthen China's economic and strategic ties with most of the world's developing nations over the coming decades.

Egypt had very old Chinese subs..Romeo class, they have modernised a few in the US.. The German subs are very good ones..but the fact that Egypt did not ask for AIP on them points to going towards new Chinese subs with AIP..Egyptian coasts are very long on two seas and Egypt needs at least 12 modern subs.. the German deal was for 4, and at most Egypt might get another 2 considering that Usrael is already crying about these 4, so there are at least 8 to go for..and the Chinese option seems to be the best..while the Russian option seems to be less appealing without AIP technology..
