KYIV, June 2 /Ukrinform/. The EU should not respond to Russia's attempts to bring the Crimean issue out of discussions of the overall situation in Ukraine, continuing the policy of non-recognition of the annexation of the peninsula. Such approach will not help Ukraine, and everyone can just forget about Crimea.
MEP from Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis said this in an interview with DW website.
"This can lead to the situation when everyone will forget about Crimea, as it happened with South Ossetia and Georgia. I think that the issue on Crimea should be discussed at the United Nations level. I would fully support the idea to bring this issue to the General Assembly meeting. Ukraine would get support there and would ask the International Court to evaluate the Crimean annexation," he said.
According to the MEP, the legal assessment of the Crimean situation at the UN level will help Ukraine demand compensation from Russia.
