Its outdated information. Some of these projects are not only approved but the construction completed by more than 50%. Some of these projects are even operational...

I will provide more information later with current status of projects

Punjab
The projects approved for the KP included
1) Transmission lines Rs1.5 billion to lay a transmission line from Lahore till Matiari that will be used to transmit 4000 MW of electricity.
Its 1.5 billion dollars and not rupees. Also I am not sure why the media is reporting 4000mw of transmission line since last month as the total power of 2 transmission lines is 4000mw and 2000mw each for Matiari to Lahore and Port Qasim-Matiari to Faisalabad

.

Sir, each of these lines can carry up to 4Giga Watts (4000 MW). Whether you actually use these for 2GW or 4GW is up to the users. So they are talking about "installed capacity", not actual expected running capacity, which will probably start from 2 GW and will increase overtime. Thanks

.
Well we can't say if something is done 50% , or 65% , what is 100% is that it is on official government site.

It is a good idea to have a "Snapshot" of where things were in 2016 , month of december

And lets say in 2018 (2 years from now) , lets see just how many projects will be completed and which ones would be deemed delayed or which one might not have a end date

I was seeing alot of threads claiming the funding has reached such and such level , so it would be nice to see actual progress of the projects vs Funding usage

A politician may have a thread claiming "We delievered every thing" but how can general public know if the claim has any merit

  • So I went to the official CPEC site and picked up anticipated completion date information and project current status information
  • The second purpose obviously is to let general public know what was approved from CPEC project as you know bunch of new projects just got approved December 30th

We only need to look as far as Nandipoor project and few others like Karachi circular railways which have remained in "Feasability status" for as long time. And most folks already know about the famous Kala Bagh project which remained parked in feasability stages.

Therefore it is excellent to see where things were 2016

Then check back 2018-2019 and just compare what was promised in term of delivery vs actual completion %

The projects that have end date "clearly" defined are something we can really consider 10/10

  • Obviously we have to update status (from inside sources) in next 2-3 years or media news or Government sites

Motorways, CPEC to open new vistas of opportunities: NHA chairman
15 MINS AGO BY APP
cp-1-300x293.jpg

Completion of under-construction motorways and highways including China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects would open new vistas of opportunities for the people of the adjacent areas and end sense of deprivation among the people of far flung areas of the country.

Talking to the media here on Sunday, National Highway Authority (NHA) General Manager Design Asim Amin said that tens of thousands of job opportunities would be created directly and indirectly after the completion of new roads in the country and destiny of the poor people would be changed forever.

Asim said that most of ongoing NHA projects were being executed in comparatively less-developed areas of the country, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Balochistan. He said that due to policies of the present government in coming years road infrastructure in the country would be transformed and Pakistan would become hub of regional trade.

Asim Amin said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had given the task of early completion of these projects to NHA, which also included alignments of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

He informed that presently either these projects were being executed or in the planning stage. “Allah Almighty has bestowed Pakistan with such geography that about 40 per cent of world population lives in its vicinity and it can act as a gateway between the most populous countries of the world, India and China,” he elaborated.

The NHA GM said that main objectives of the NHA were to develop high speed north-south economic corridor, provide linkages with the Gwadar Port and enhance regional connectivity. Asim Amin said that presently the NHA’s portfolio has crossed Rs 1,000 billion which used to be Rs 50 to 60 billion a few years back.

He said that the CPEC was the name of building roads from Khunjerab to Gwadar. “A number of sections of this mega project have been completed and the remaining are under-construction,” he informed.

He said 335 km Khunjerb-Raikot section of the Karakoram Highway (N-35) has already been upgraded while for the upgradation of Raikot-Thakot section of the highway, damaged during 2010 floods, China had given $70 million grant and its 136 km portion had been rehabilitated while for the remaining 140 km section, talks for another grant worth $80 million were in progress.

He said that the western corridor was divided into six sections including Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan (288km), Dera Ismail Khan-Zhob (205km), Zhob-Quetta (331 km), Quetta-Sohrab 211km, Sohrab-Hoshab 449 km and Hoshab-Gwadar 193km.

He said that western route passed through less developed areas of KP and Balochistan. “With development on this route, people living in these areas would get jobs,” he added.

He said Halka-Dera Ismail Khan road was the biggest missing link in the proposed western route, and it would be completed by August 2018. “One of the major projects of CPEC is the widening of 533km long two-lane Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta Highway,” he said, and added, “Under the project, the road will be turned into a four-lane carriageway. Its feasibility study has been carried out by the National Engineering Services of Pakistan.”

Asim said the NHA would also strengthen the east-west connectivity through Balochistan and extend across all provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan.

Hi Guys

Can you clarify for me. I was told the Khunjerab pass, the main route between China and Pakistan is closed, due to snow, 4 months a year. Is this true?

If so, is there any plans under CPEC to get round this?

Thanks

It's going to be open all year long:

Removing CPEC bottlenecks: Tunnels may smoothen trade in winter

GILGIT: Steps will soon be taken to keep the flow of containers nonstop on the CPEC route even in extreme winter conditions, official spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government Faizullah Faraq said on Monday.

Expressing optimism regarding removal of bottlenecks in bilateral trade with China, Faraq hinted at the possibility of excavating a series of tunnels along the CPEC route.

Pakistan, China to trade in local currencies

“The first convoy that reached Gwadar via Sost was a test case,” said the spokesman. “It was a success and now (the flow) will not stop.”

Keeping in line with decades-old traditions, the border between the two countries closed on December 1.

The border closure, lasting till April 1 next year, is observed under an agreement signed by both countries in 1985 to avoid losses in harsh weather conditions in this mountainous and rugged region. A month earlier, the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was formally launched as hundreds of Chinese trucks loaded with goods rolled into the Sost dry port in Gilgit-Baltistan on November 1 this year.

“The closure of border means suspension of all business activities,” said Imran Ali, who is the president of the Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce.

“But that’s under a protocol which is in the interest of traders,” Ali said.

Ali said that because traders involved in trade with China knew the schedule of border closure, it did not affect their businesses. He was confident that this stoppage would soon end under the CPEC. “Neither Pakistan nor China can afford to waste this much time, especially after the start of CPEC,” he said, adding that four-month-long suspension meant huge loss in revenue in customs duties.

China, busy reviving the Old Silk Route under its ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, has asked Pakistan recently to suggest ways to reduce trade losses caused by possible extreme weather events.

China organised the International Science Forum of National Scientific Organisations in Beijing, which was participated by 36 heads of Asian and European scientific organisations.

During the conference, Pakistan urged China to develop a multi-hazard early warning system in areas vulnerable to climate hazards such as tsunamis, flashfloods, landslides, earthquakes, fog, tropical cyclones and dust storms. Pakistan also called for strengthening weather and climate data network, besides improving financial cooperation and sharing skill and technology-based knowledge among member states.

These measures would help Beijing greatly reduce trade and human losses on the route, officials said.

Heavy snowfall, threats of avalanches and other extreme events linked with extreme cold weather in this area of the world, forces stoppage of large vehicles, besides ending all activities at the Sost dry port. The dry port starts closing down by the middle of December before packing up by year end. Life returns to normal after the port opens on April 1 next year.

Trade has not yet picked up, but officials had high hopes of boosting the ailing national economy. So far, no major difference had appeared in domestic revenue on this front.

“So far, the revenue collection is Rs1.85 billion this year,” said Deputy Collector of Customs Akbar Gandapur.

“The number of containers arriving at Sost (dry port) from China is (still) 1,200,” said Gandapur, who is posted at Sost. The first consignment of CPEC goods was received by G-B Chief Minister Hafeezur Rehman and the commander of the Force Command Northern Areas Maj-Gen Saqib Mehmood.

Yes its closed for few months each year. That is why we are dualising the Highway and will possible remove snow more often in near future. The tunnels will also help a lot in ensuring smoother flow of traffic each year. That is the biggest challenge ahead of us

Folks it would be ideal to use the thread only for "status" / completion dates or delays or new projects added in mix

For individual pictures and news articles there are other active threads

This thread should ideally by upgraded by folks with inside sources and accurate data on project or solid news articles that talk about completion ratio

Updates could be done 6 month basis or every 12 months once
