One shot of the vaccines is not enough for high protection from the now-dominant variant of Sars-CoV-2, the study says
Two doses of Pfizer’s or AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine are nearly as effective against the highly transmissible Delta variant of coronavirus as they are against the previously dominant Alpha variant, a study published on Wednesday showed.
Officials say vaccines are highly effective against the Delta variant, now the dominant variant worldwide, though the study reiterated that one shot of the vaccines is not enough for high protection.
The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, confirms headline findings given by Public Health England in May about the efficacy of Covid-19 vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Oxford-AstraZeneca, based on real-world data.
Wednesday's study found that two doses of Pfizer's shot was 88% effective at preventing symptomatic disease from the Delta variant, compared to 93.7% against the Alpha variant, broadly the same as previously reported.

Two shots of AstraZeneca vaccine were 67% effective against the Delta variant, up from 60% originally reported, and 74.5% effective against the Alpha variant, compared to an original estimate of 66% effectiveness.

"Only modest differences in vaccine effectiveness were noted with the Delta variant as compared with the Alpha variant after the receipt of two vaccine doses," Public Health England researchers wrote in the study.
Data from Israel has estimated lower effectiveness of Pfizer's shot against symptomatic disease, although protection against severe disease remains high.
PHE had previously said that a first dose of either vaccine was around 33% effective against symptomatic disease from the Delta variant.
The full study published on Wednesday found that one dose of Pfizer's shot was 36% effective, and one dose of AstraZeneca's vaccine was around 30% effective.
"Our finding of reduced effectiveness after the first dose would support efforts to maximize vaccine uptake with two doses among vulnerable groups in the context of circulation of the Delta variant," the authors of the study said."

Indonesia only use Sinoparm for companies who bought that from government ( not free). No data about the effectiveness yet for Indonesian case.

Indonesia uses in large majority Sinovacs and has proven 98 % effective against death. You have seen the data as well right from Jakarta Globe ? So why keep repeating this again and again ??

The Sinovac is also effective against new Delta variant

Do not worry. @UKBengali has this good habit of repeating the same thing like a broken LP record.

Have you not seen what has happened in Indonesia with a collapsed health system with patients suffocating to death outside hospitals? It was all over the BBC here in the UK recently like India was 2/3 months ago.

Indonesia has followed India in this regard and the lack of effectiveness of the Chinese vaccine was a major factor.

Even the Chinese government has lost faith in its vaccines by recommending a booster with a Western mRNA vaccine. They will get 100 million vaccines this year and 1 billion next year.

Please don't tag me again unless it is for some legitimate reason. Thanks.

Do they also conduct similar research on other vaccine ? Look like it is just focusing on Sinoparm......I mean how other vaccine performance when they deal with Delta varian ?

As usual, you are heinously fabricating things. Why did you bring up the Chinese vaccine here? Can you give just one link to prove that a person with Chinese vaccine inoculated has died in Indonesia or anywhere?

I am surprised at your callousness. But, can you tell us why the corona cases increased also in India? Is it also because Indians were inoculated with the Chinese vaccines?

About three jabs, even Pfizer wants it but the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has not yet approved it yet.

What are you smoking?

You freely admit you are not an educated person so why are you talking about stuff beyond your level of education?

Numerous data from Chile and Indonesia(BBC report explicitly said doctors double-dosed with Chinese vaccines died in Indonesia) indicates the Chinese vaccine cannot give enough protection like the Western ones can.

Now just keep quiet and try to only talk about stuff that you are capable of talking about.

There is a reason why I keep ignoring you and you get multiple bans yet are so shameless that you do not change your behaviour.

I think the ignore feature may not be working anymore and so I will need to ask the moderators as you are just too much.

Yes, I have little formal education, did not pass through the last grade of Primary.

But, here you are supposed to answer one simple question that an Indonesian inoculated with Chinese vaccine has been found sick with corona and he/ she died.

Instead of answering a simple question, you are suddenly questioning my academic qualifications. Is it that important?

I do not remember I have ever applied for a job with you.
