Corrupt rulers least care about people: Zardari
Says PML-N govt only interested in receiving kickbacks in mega projects

March 24, 2017

LAHORE - PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari has accused the PML-N government of indulging in corruption and showing apathy to the masses.

Pointing finger at them, former Pakistan President said that the rulers eye only at kickbacks and they least care about the people.

He was addressing at a function held jointly in connection with the Pakistan Day and the 88th birthday of Begum Nusrat Bhutto at Bilawal House here yesterday.

Asif Zardari said the rulers have become so haughty that they look down upon the people, what to talk of serving them.

He said the PPP accepted every adverse situation whether it was created by the judiciary under the head of Iftikhar Muhammad Ch or the result of ROs-infected elections. Despite every odd this party will live for good, he maintained.

Whenever difficult time came to the country or the democracy was under threat, the PPP rose to the occasion, he said. But PPP was always targeted even when this party talked of ensuring rights of the Baloch and end their deprivation while extending apology for the excesses done to them in the past, he added.

The former President recalled the long time he spent with Begum Nusrat Bhutto and said during the time he spent in jail, he learnt to make the difficulties a source of power. Whether it was jail or the martyrdoms rendered by the PPP leadership, all gave new energy to the party.

He said his thought was focused on the betterment of the country but others looked at them with suspicion even when the PPP party improved situation in KPK and brought prosperity to the people of that province.

Zardari said “we all are with existence of Pakistan as such we must avoid compromising on its survival and integrity”. He said the PPP will play its role in protecting the country the way it deems fit.

He also charged the PML-N with minting money through commissions from mega contracts for construction of roads and bridges. However, he said, rule is a passing matter and recalled that as the president his meetings with the rulers of the others country had greater significance in his life.

Asif Ali Zardari said in meeting with Saddam Hussain, he found him conceited and the same gesture he now finds in the sitting rulers of Pakistan. The rulers are careless about the poor and their only objective is to make money, he added. Cake cutting was also held on the occasion.

During course of the function, Zardari asked the workers to chant slogans for Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as next prime minister of the country. The charged up jiyalas were raising slogans ‘Wazir-e-Azam Asif Ali Zardari’ but he stopped them and asked them to raise slogans Wazir-e-Azam Bilawal Bhutto.

ZARDARI MEETS SHUJAAT

Zardari also held a meeting with PLM-Q President Ch Shujaat Hussain and Pervez Elahi at Bilawal House.

They shared views on the current political situation and agreed to go hand in hand in political affairs of the country. According to reports, the PPP and the PML-Q leaders also decided to give the PML-N a tough time in politics.

Meanwhile, Zardari will leave for Multan today (Friday) to see former minister Hamid Raza Kazmi who was exonerated in Haj corruption case.

‘How dare NAB chief file a case against me,’ says Zardari
GNGEO NEWS
March 22, 2017
Former President Asif Ali Zardari warned the government that it doesn’t take too long for time to change.

“I am threatening the government and its minister. I am also threatening the man whose hair is never ruined,” he said. “It is possible that you will fall down on my feet like Saif-ur-Rehman.”

Zardari made these remarks during an interview with Hamid Mir on Capital Talk. The interview aired on Geo News on Wednesday.

“How dare the National Accountability Bureau chief file a case against me? What position does he have?” he claimed.

“They do injustice but forget it doesn’t take long for time to change. They try their best but I don’t feel threatened,” he said.

“Even after rejecting the results of election, we supported democracy,” he said. “If I didn’t take the oath then someone else would have come, and with that person you would have not been able to make democracy work.”

Sharing his future plans, he said Bilawal and I will go to this parliament only. “We will go to this parliament. For a political hunt it is necessary to go the politicians' nest.”

“No politician can open an account in any other country except Nawaz Sharif,” he said, adding “I am also waiting for the verdict on Panama case.”

When asked about Swiss Bank account, he said if there is money is Swiss Bank then it belongs to foreigners and not Pakistanis.” I don’t have money in Swiss Bank,” he claimed.

Speaking about relationship with US, he said “I don’t want entry in US, I want trade relationship.”

He also said, “We had a lot of expectations from Barack Obama. He didn’t reach his full potential like we thought he would.”

The PPP co-chairperson also mentioned military courts. “Military courts were also established for two years previously,” he said, adding “our advice on military courts was disliked by few of our friends.”

On Hussain Haqqani

Hussain Haqqani didn’t even have the right in American Embassy to issues visas [to anyone], said Zardari.

“I don’t think Hussain has said this, he didn’t even have the right in American Embassy to issues visas [to anyone]. There a lot more people in American Embassy than just the ambassador who scramble through the important visas.”

Zardari also said, “I would never meet Haqqani nor would plan to meet during my visits to Washington.”

“Hussain Haqqani lives in another world altogether these days. There is a lot of difference in the way we think now,” the PPP leader said.

“I don’t agree with what Haqqani has written about Pakistan in his book. Haqqani considers himself Washington’s philosopher and lobbyists, there are some people who make friends in US while making anti-Pakistani statements, said Zardari, adding “Haqqani thinks he is very smart.”

When Hussain Haqqani was made the ambassador the president of the country was Pervez Musharraf.

On Sheikh Rasheed, Ayyan Ali

Zardari also spoke about Sheikh Rasheed and accused him of lack of loyalty. “When I was the presdent, Sheikh Rasheed once ate food with me. The food lacked salt,” he said while alluding to Rasheed’s alleged lack of loyalty.

Previously, Sheikh rasheed had called Nawaz Sharif and Zardari each other’s insurance policy

Speaking about the Ayyan Ali case, he remarked Latif Khoso took the Ayyan Ali case and got a chance. The case is another way to defame me, Zardari said, adding “I am in no way involved in this issue.”

On issues during his tenure

“Our government faced the issue of Osama [Bin Laden]”, he remarked. The parliament solved this issue otherwise who knows what the world would have done with us.

“The parliament fought him, civilians fought him, otherwise who knows what the world would have done,” he remarked.

He also stated that it was the decision of the parliament and establishment to not make the findings of Abbotabad commission.

MULTAN: Former president of Pakistan leader of Pakistan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari on Friday took an exception to former Supreme Court chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and called him a “political judge”.

Addressing a press conference, Zardari claimed that the former chief justice wanted to become president of the country, adding that his stance stood vindicated after Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry launched his own political party.

Speaking to Geo News, senior journalist Hamid Mir said during an argument over restoration of judges, Zardari had told him that justice Chaudhry would form his own political party after retirement.

Asif Ali Zardari castigated the former top judge for what he said targeting the Pakistan People’s Party and leveling allegations.

When asked to comment what could be the outcome of Panama Papers case, he said Benazir Bhutto always said verdicts are never against Nawaz Sharif and they never favor Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

The PPP leader said his party would win the Punjab and would show its opponents what development exactly means.
