Govt Cancels All Board Exams & Announces New Marking System

The federal government has announced to cancel all examinations of secondary and higher secondary classes, due to the fear of coronavirus.

Federal Minister for Education, Shafqat Mehmood, announced this in a joint press conference with the federal cabinet in the presence of Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday.

Mehmood said that for the government, the health and safety of students and honorable teachers is the priority. It cannot take any decision which puts their lives in danger.

It was, therefore, decided to cancel examinations for 9th, matric, first-year, and second-year students for the educational year 2019-20. All students will be promoted to the next classes based on average marking system keeping their past performances in view.

He further announced that educational institutions across the country will remain closed till July 15. As per the previous decision, schools were supposed to reopen on June 1, but some provinces were reluctant to open schools this early as the coronavirus case curve is steeply rising upwards.

He said that it was a mutual decision taken during a video conferencing with all provincial education ministers

1. Pakistan has an excellent contact tracing system. We are able to identify likely cases and hotspots quickly. Other countries, not so much.

2. We have been in a severe lockdown for 7 weeks. Extending it further is becoming more and more unfeasible. We **have** to loosen it. The choice is not between lockdown and no lockdown. The choice is between it snapping suddenly and uncontrollably and it being relaxed in a controlled manner.

3. All choices suck. We must hope that our Contact tracing system can keep us ahead of new cases and we can keep increasing health care capacity. This is probably our best chance.

Yes. Many such cases have been reported here. Many patients that had some other heart/breathing issues for ages, were put into Corona list and bodies taken over and sealed. But people revolt and fight back for the body as they know the deceased had asthema or heart condition and not corona. This made people started question the existence of Corona at all.

Cases are surging at huge pace. Reported ones are 1764. 35 people died in a day and recoveries are 1066. Tests conducted are around 12000

Doing that gives us 7.3% increase. Its been consistent at 6-8% per day for nearly a month now.
Do that calculation before you say "surging". Its geometric progression.

(there have been days when the number feel to 5% and a couple over 8%, but otherwise, this number has remained remarkably consistent). We seem to be on a plateau as to growth. Which...is not good, but not disastrous.
