NCOC finalizes various recommendations in wake of COVID-19 pandemic

National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has recommended that guidelines for Ramzan regarding taraweeh and mass congregations should be formulated in consultation of Ulema.

A meeting of the NCOC was held in Islamabad on Tuesday with Planning Minister Asad Umar in the chair, which finalized various recommendations for National Coordination Committee's approval in wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting suggested that Ministry of Interior in consultation with Ulema will formulate guidelines for Ramzan covering aspects like taraweeh, namaz, roza congregations, Iftar and sehri, arrangements of Juma Bazar, Ramzan Bazar, distribution of food items, and collection of fitrana.

Regarding indigenous manufacturing capacity of the country, the meeting recommended that Ministry of Science and Technology, DRAP and NUST should finalize decision of domestic development of testing kits within 36 hours. It was mentioned in the meeting that Pakistan Engineering Council is developing five types of ventilators and eight designs have been submitted for approval. It was said clinical trials of these ventilators have started.

Coming to Railways, the meeting was informed that seven trains have been converted into hospitals and isolation wards, while 26 trains are available for plying across the country. Besides, 48 Railways hospitals are available, including 12 major hospitals and 36 small dispensaries.

The meeting also discussed plight of stranded Pakistani citizens in various countries. It was said that 1950 passengers will be brought back and three months are required to bring back all stranded Pakistanis. It recommended that all passengers will be quarantined as per health guidelines at locations of arrival. Seven international airports, except Sialkot, will be operating to bring back stranded Pakistani nationals.

The NCOC asked the Ministry of Interior to issue notifications for closure of borders for another two weeks with effect from date of expiry of previous notifications. It recommended that Wagah Border will remain closed from 16th to 29th of this month, western border with Afghanistan and Iran from 13th to 26th of this month, and Kartarpur Corridor from 11th to 24th of this month.

Interior Minister Brig. retired Ijaz Ahmed Shah Minister for Industries and Production Muhammad Hammad Azhar, Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Khan, Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtiar, Minister for National Food and Security Fakhar Imam, Prime Minister's Special Assistant Mr Moeed Yousaf and Dr Zafar Mirza and Finance Advisor Abdul Razak Dawood were present at the briefing. However, Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Chief Ministers of Sindh, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the meeting through video link.

Hours after the federal government announced National Coordination Committee's decision to ease lockdown restrictions across the country, the Sindh government has decided to allow the resumption of certain economic activities, albeit with the condition that they follow precautionary measures to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

A notification issued to this effect by the Sindh home department late on Tuesday evening reflected some of the relief measures granted to certain industries in line with the NCC's recommendations.

To remain closed

The notification, states that all educational institutions, public places, marriage halls, shopping malls, cinemas, beauty parlours, electronic markets and markets or shops selling non-essential items are to remain closed.

Restaurants too will remain closed for dine-in and take-away, although they are now allowed to deliver at home.

The notification also orders public places such as beaches, parks and play grounds to be sealed. The ban on religious and social gatherings is also maintained.

Meanwhile, all modes of public transport are also banned.

The notification states that all grocery stores as well as medical stores that are not located close to hospitals are to remain closed between 5pm and 8am. Petrol pumps are also to remain closed during this time

Only 68 people recovered in 24 hours but death toll increase by 11. Numbers of cases detected are lesser than previous day. Number of tests are still disappointing.

A total of 93 coronavirus patients have recovered from the coronavirus in Punjab.

Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said 24 patients from Expo Centre Field Hospital and five patients got recovered from the COVID-19, during last 24 hours.

She said 93 patients have been sent back to their houses from Lahore’s Expo Center and Mayo Hospital after recovering from the deadly coronavirus.

Efforts of the medical teams are paying fruits as 93 patients from Mayo and Expo Centre Field Hospital have been discharged till date, she said, adding that, all the health facilities are available at the hospitals in Punjab.

Dr Yasim further said that the decision to extend lockdown across the country was taken in the wake of preventing the spread of coronavirus.

On the other hand, as many as 133 patients have recovered from the virus in Sindh taking the national tally to over 1,500.

Accoring to the Sindh government spokesperson, 133 people have recovered in the province from the virus taking the proivnicial tally to 560.

The total number of COVID-19 cases reached 6,231 in Pakistan after the more infections were reported during the last 24 hours, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Operation Centre.

In addition, the coronavirus has claimed 113 lives in the country, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 38 deaths, 28 in Punjab, 41 in Sindh, three in Gilgit-Baltistan while two in Balochistan and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported one death.

Sorry to say, but this Corona Litmus Test proved me that Ummah is no more existant on this planet in the current Human Race. Not in the forseen future as well.
However, somewhere some traces of it will continue to surprise us time to time.

I must welcome this anomily in our smooth flowing life to reveal our true selves to us.
