I guess this is inevitable ...

China has reported two additional deaths from COVID-19 as some cities move cautiously to ease anti-pandemic restrictions. The National Health Commission says Shandong and Sichuan provinces each reported one death.

The emergency ward accross the road is normal. Most colleagues recovered within 3 days, max 5 days. Mild fever for most, no hospitalization as far as I know, even for a 60 year old.

Number of severe COVID-19 cases reached a peak on January 5, 2023 standing at 128,000, a NHC official said, who also noted that the number was down to 105,000 as of January 12. 75.3 percent of beds for severe cases were occupied.

It's not a big number considering how big China is.
Vietnam is already 40K and Japan is already 60K.

RIP to the deceased.

The number of COVID-19 cases detected at fever clinics is also declining, the NHC said, detailing that 33.9% of fever clinics patients were COVID-19 positive on Dec 20, and the rate has fallen to 10.8% as of Jan 12, which indicates that peak infection levels have already occurred

China reported 59,938 COVID-19 related deaths at hospitals from Dec 8 to Thursday, a health official said on Saturday.

Jiao Yahui, head of the National Health Commission's medical administration bureau, said that 5,503 fatalities were caused by respiratory failure induced by the infection, and the other 54,435 cases had died with preexisting illnesses.

The average age of deaths during said period is 80.3, and over 90 percent of them had suffered from chronic illnesses, she said.

"Winter is also the peak season for respiratory and cardiovascular diseases among the elderly. With the spread of the COVID-19 disease, the number of elderly deaths is relatively large and we are attaching greater significance to protecting elderly patients and saving their lives," she said.

Jiao said that China has established a reporting platform aimed at collecting and analyzing COVID-19 related deaths in a scientific and fact-based manner. The platform was put into use on Dec 31.

In addition, medical institutions across the country are asked to gather and report information on deaths recorded between Dec 8 to 29.

She said it took some time for experts to analyze the massive amount of data so as to present a science-based and objective account of the COVID-19 death toll in the country.

China has been counting deaths with a positive COVID-19 nucleic acid test as COVID-19 related fatalities since the initial phase of the epidemic, Jiao said. The criteria, she said, is in alignment with standards adopted by the World Health Organization and most countries.

On Jan 17, Simcere Pharmaceutical Group announced that the NDA of XIANNUOXIN, a #COVID19 antiviral drug jointly developed by Simcere, Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Wuhan Institute of Virology and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been accepted by NMPA.

XIANNUOXIN could become the 2nd domestic antiviral drug to be approved in #China. Chinese netizens are expressing concerns about whether Azvudine is effective against #COVID19 infections. Compared with Azvudine, XIANNUOXIN has more comprehensive and concrete clinical trial data.
